1. I cried with the eyelids of the enamored lover,
So leave what the eyelids cried before to perfection.

2. And provoke my passion in the darkness, the voice of a bird,
So say in eloquent passion, the love of a foreigner.

3. And many a reproacher, I do not understand his words,
Even if I were the comprehending listener.

4. So if he wishes, let him be silent, and if he wishes, let him stand
To where his mother Um Qushaym pitched her tent.

5. A man of patience hopes that our knots will be untied,
So wondrous is the breaker of firm ties!

6. And O war from what my glance has become in an instant-
Slain with grief between a sword blade and skull fragments!

7. You see blood above my cheek like a martyr’s,
Its scent is musk but its color is blood.

8. Scents that perfume the robe as if
Belonging to the memory of Aladdin in perfume he delights.

9. The chief who contained the excellence of virtues in his person
Just as words contained letters of a foreigner.

10. He narrated the poetry of the news of his subtle smile
And precisely dictated the traditions of piety like every Muslim.

11. The chains of leadership and prohibition were authenticated
From the ear, from the seeing eye, from the mouth.

12. If he outlined Egypt and Syria with his opinion,
He outlined the abodes of ruins and Zamzam.

13. As if the chasms of the earth were illuminated
By his excellent attributes, like the dwellings of stars.

14. For him is a meadow those alive prayed behind its generosity-
So look to the worshipper in submission!

15. I was amazed by its generosity overshadowing what belongs to it,
And that is the safety of the fearful complainant.

16. If an arrow he fears is shot above the shield,
It trembles at the decoration of the perforated mantle.

17. So treat that shield kindly in every viewer’s sight,
And protect the one who fears and honor him!

18. Leave off the dark night relating its expanse and might,
For they, when the years resonate, will regret.

19. And spare the efforts of the white ones in the fray of battle,
For then every servant will sleep in his eyelid.

20. To you belongs, O eminent and noble ambition!
And most eloquent view in the turbulent time!

21. You gathered charm, asceticism, might, and argument-
So be generous, devout, prevent wrong, and be forbearing!

22. And you attained by the field of worship a limit
That reminds us on the day of racing Ibn Adham.

23. And when we complained of the sterility of our time,
You were superior to the sadness of the holy month.

24. You who, had the full moon enabled your palm,
Would have spent it upon the visitors like a dirham!

25. To your lofty door, eulogies of a praising poet
Wander in the cheeks of the twittering spring.

26. Perhaps we have rapped the sand in effort,
And perhaps we will rap the sand before the astrologer.

27. And you were, whenever the time hinted,
I found you the furthest of the hint reader.

28. You remained serving us with happiness
While all crafters of poetry hit their mark.

29. The child of poetry grows old before his purpose
And the mind of a Muslim retreats from reaching it.

30. The excellence of praise preceded the excellence of your virtues,
And merit belonged to the early!
