1. He shed tears in Egypt, where his children are,
While in Damascus tears flow freely.

2. With a burning liver and anxious cares,
So they all complain of yearning’s agony.

3. Had the Succor of Creation wished to reunite me with them,
I would not remain afflicted and distressed.

4. The defender of God’s religion owns a sword
That remains beloved to the nation.

5. If the lion’s chest were split open to reveal its heart,
My name would be found inscribed there.

6. Written there with a dreadful pen,
So the lion’s heart remained filled with dread.

7. You still see me living out my days
Where only good deeds are counted.
