1. I answered the caller of love before he called
Whether you blame me or pray for me

2. May God grant me a heart where passion is a path
And weeping eyes where tears flow freely

3. A moment's glance left me brokenhearted
Grieving, with worries crowding my thoughts

4. A past love I recalled
Brought back tears studded like pearls

5. Illness frightens me, I wish it would
Remain in me, occupying its place

6. I am worn out, if eyes sought me they wouldn't see
If my thoughts encountered hearing they wouldn't comprehend

7. Many times I had a beloved
Who strove until we were parted

8. When we were separated, it was as if
After long unity we never spent a night together

9. If elegance were a poem
His cheeks would be the sunrise it welcomed

10. Tears made the cup go round and round
And the dazzling cup-bearer made it go around

11. As if our meeting was a bounty, the hands
Of Ibn Shaddad hastened until it crumbled

12. If rain has no benefit in a year
Suffice yourself with the victorious king as refuge

13. A king who revived the market of poetry in his time
So I came to his doors as a merchant

14. By God, were it not for the promptings of praising him
The house of poetry for me would be in ruins

15. Should the pens of praise be blamed if
They bow down to him, not people, and kneel?

16. I sacrifice the rising of the brilliant full moon
Though he is higher than any sacrifice and loftier

17. Have you not seen us find in his land
What we desire, in the land of Egypt, and pasture?

18. When the son of the devout spreads his plants
The Nile need not stretch out its fingers over us

19. By Him who created the clouds and folded them
He was generous when the clouds were full so they departed

20. Virtues of the ancients have been heard
But this virtue has not been equaled

21. Clouds hoped for like hopes for rain
And might kindled like lightning flashes

22. And knowledge whose pages he filled with its arts
Were coolness for the days like gilded armor

23. Remembrance of him resides in every loving heart
For the son of Ali, excusing the partisan

24. May God perpetuate the most fragrant spring in his rule
And the sweetest drinking place of favors its source

25. He is the king who quenched my face's thirst and protected it
So if praises fall short, supplications do not

26. Every year I make the pilgrimage to him
So, excellent is meeting him each time

27. I circle his generosity like a dove
No wonder I flutter about and moan

28. God decreed that he stand for each visitor
Out of duty, and if he finds no duty, volunteering

29. By God, praise was lost with others
Vanishing, but with him volunteering
