1. People wondered at my silence, though I mentioned
Salma, and they said, "A heart smitten is consoled"

2. And my tears were confused in my eyes, so a youth said
"I swear by the Holy City, these are no eyes of Solomon!"

3. If the beloved stripped me of my patience, she who gives
The Judge of judges compensated me from the generous ladies

4. For knowledge and generosity, a crown - if I heeded praise -
How it guided me to goodness and guided me!

5. And in intimacy and estrangement, how much I said in my praise:
"This house of Salman is no house of Hassaan!"

6. So let the feast rejoice in might and bounty
And for the people, by it, two feasts!

7. I see no difference between sacrifices or transgressions slaughtered
For enemies and cattle are equal
