1. The supreme judge rules with his right hand
O you who intend righteousness, this is the door of justice and knowledge

2. This flowing river from which pottery is collected
The hand of the Imam, well known among nations

3. When he assumed authority, those who passed were gone
He attained glory, so ambiguity and pain disappeared

4. Ali succeeded and after those like him arrived
Like a torrent that approaches when the rain pours down

5. God does not prolong the days of glory, so none
Establishes rights or sings his praises among people

6. And God protects him for his status
So morals and traits have become similar

7. There is no equal to him in knowledge and flowing wisdom
Thus the clouds weep while the sea roars

8. One who hides good deeds out of dignity
Should a man conceal the scent of musk?

9. He came to Damascus and before we left the clouds
Damascus flourishes from Egypt and blends in

10. Alas for Egypt when he left it
Who would deny that it should be consoled for its ruin?

11. After seeing him it shared the sorrow and knew
That, like mirrors, lands possess a portion

12. His absence desolated the border from the sight of his beauty
So that the face of time scarcely smiled

13. The border lamented in agony
A poem that nearly set my heart aflame

14. O he whose loss grieves us, whom we hate to leave
Without you everything is naught

15. Damascus glories in him who left it
While his heart burned for those whose hearts are resolute

16. What fine guidance, while the stars wander astray
The guided, while the age is in turmoil

17. I swear by the crescent moons in his hand
Even the brightest servant is awed by them

18. I said to one who claimed to control his destiny
What a fine sleep you saw and dream!

19. Had you not slept, you would not have sought lofty paths
Stumbling under the Star of Taurus' footsteps

20. In his dwellings all seasons are spring
And every month in his court inviolable

21. O confident of aid from the Most High, live forever
Supported by fortune, steadfast

22. And hurl him, if days rebel or stint
Forbearance and munificence in his club are partners

23. There lies the mountain, yet he is but a man
In whose palm the sea lies, yet he is generous

24. The ink of sublime tablet pages is clear in him
Wealth is shared, glory assembled

25. Rhyme has a share in his virtues
So grace, judgment, laws and wisdom

26. Nothing raises hopes of his nobility
Save that intention to succeed is resolute with him

27. The loftiest traits and gifts rejoice in him
Inducements to which boons are led

28. His sublime traits spoke, and were not silent
"This pious, pure, immaculate learned man"

29. Greetings O judge of competing claims, their arbiter
Those who intend his favor will submit to him

30. Time was at war with us, deceiving us
Today peace was cast between us

31. The dwelling of the lofty was inactive, so a pillar
Which the lofty circumambulate and take charge of stood for it

32. O ruler, we observed no star precede his auspiciousness
Save that the darkness of the nights we intended disappeared

33. You gave me hope after I knew
My soul was aloof from people, whether they were generous or stingy

34. My Arabic expression was inaccessible
To people, neither Arabs nor non-Arabs

35. What is poetry to me in an age and time
Where the Indian and Persian swords are equal?

36. Until your noble ones shone upon me, giving
I saw the string of rhymes, how it is threaded

37. You demolished with your gifts the house of wealth
So delight in verses praising you that will not be demolished

38. After you none will revive the words of a describer
Would that the words sufficed to describe you

39. You neither invalidated our worldly lives nor lost
The breath of your life-giving breezes and zephyrs
