1. I praised my God after hardship when I was saved
Some scratches and some evil is easier than other evil

2. By Allah, I will not forget a slain man whom I mocked
Beside my bow as long as I walked upon the earth

3. Yes, rancors do fade, but we are tasked with the lesser
Though time may pass and much goes by

4. I did not know who I cast my robe upon
But he was one noble and pure

5. He was not one with a heart melted, lost
Who wasted youth in vanity and humbleness

6. But he was one who was torn by calamities
As one firm, honest in purpose

7. As if they clung to a bird
Of delicate frame, its bones without bulk

8. It hastens at night's approach so it is a departer
