1. I spend the night with my belly hungry
And I prefer to feed my companion before myself
١. أَبِيتُ خَمِيصَ البَطنِ غَرثَانَ جائِعاً
وأُوثرُ بِالزّادِ الرَّفِيقَ على نَفسِى
2. I spread out my bedroll for him
And lay myself down on the bare ground
٢. وأُفرِشُهُ فَرشِى وأَفتَرِشُ الثَّرَى
وأَجعَلُ مَسَّ الأَرضِ مِن دُونِهِ لَبسِى
3. I make the touch of earth my only clothing
Lest the words of gatherings tomorrow
٣. حِذارَ أَحاديثِ المَحافلِ فى غَدٍ
إِذا ضَمَّنِى يَوماً إِلَى صَدرِهِ رَمسِى
