1. I recall the days of fever, then I bend
Over my liver out of fear that it might split
١. وَأَذكُرُ أَيّامَ الحِمَى ثُمَّ أَنثَنِى
عَلَى كَبِدِى مِن خَشيَةٍ أَن تَصَدعَا
2. And the evenings of fever do not return
To you, but let your eyes shed tears
٢. وَلَيسَت عَشِيّاتُ الحِمَى بِرَواجِعِ
عَلَيكَ وَلَكِن خَلِّ عَينَيكَ تَدمَعَا
3. My right eye wept, so when I rebuked it
For ignorance after wisdom, both flowed together
٣. بَكَت عَينِى اليُمنَى فَلَمّا زَجَرَتُها
عَنِ الجَهلِ بَعدَ الحِلمِ أَسبَلَتا مَعا
