Who strode valiantly through Ukayl's land

١. شَفى النَّفسَ أَسيَافٌ بأيمانِ فِتيَةٍ
منَ الفِزرِ جَالَت فِى عُقَيلٍ ذُكُورُها

2. Tested by days, they multiplied strikes upon
The enemies - their chests arebut gaping wounds

٢. مُجَرَّبةُ الأَيَّامِ قد أكثَرُوا بها
قِراعَ الأَعَادِى فَهيَ ثُلمٌ صُدُورُها

3. As if the march of ants were over their bodies
When their leopard-skins are not dyed by blood

٣. كأنَّ مَدَبَّ النَّملِ فوقَ مُتونِها
إذا لم تُصَبَّغ من دماءٍ نُميرُها

4. They turn them white then emerge from them
Like the full clusters of palm trees ripened through months

٤. يَرِدنَهُمُ بيضاً ويَصدُرنَ منهمُ
كامطاءِ نخلٍ تمَّمتها شُهورُها

5. At the hands of my cousin's sons, their faces like
Lamps that lit up the wilderness, their light

٥. بأيدى بنى عمّى كأنَّ وجُوهَهُم
مَصَابِيحُ شُبَّت لِلبَريَّةِ نُورُها

6. Zeal's love called Hazim, driving him
To a renowned one whose pride was poison's core

٦. دَعَا حَازِماً حُبُّ الشِّوَاءِ فَساقَهُ
لِمَأثُورَةٍ عُلَّت بسُمّ غُرُورُها

7. He took refuge in God's help, then in his mother's
A soul left without a helper to watch over

٧. تَلاَفى بِغَوثِ اللهِ ثُمَّ بأُمِّهِ
حُشَاشَةَ نَفسٍ غَابَ عَنهَا نَصِيرُها
