1. Stop at Al-Hazn, where complaining is sweet,
And wind through the meadows, gently bent.

2. Revive an abode, make it strong.
And if you come to Najd's fever,

3. Ask especially about Al-Banah.
Lend me a tear for her,

4. That she may be watered - perhaps revived.
For how much time beneath her shade

5. We whiled away, as we wished!
And how many nights with her

6. We talked openly, whispering.
And on the side of the sands I have

7. A gazelle, lonely, yearning,
Winding through the days of my pact,

8. Not turning this way or that.
Ask the eyelids of her eyes

9. Why they have saddled me with affliction.
And if I live, though love itself

10. Has barred the way, all is pretense.
