1. You have banished me far from home
And robbed my grieving heart of peace.

You wept, you made tears flow plentifully.

3. You thought that distance would increase
Our longing, so took it for your motto.

4. You knew my heart was ravaged with pining for you
Yet you handed it fire to burn.

5. You denied my wistful ghost the right
To visit. What harm if it came by?

6. Oh days of parting! You have slipped away
Though you were our lifetime.

7. Many long nights I cried until
Dawn broke, which were fleeting hours of union.

8. The nights sped by like a moonlit night
Whose nearness brought no joy before it passed.

9. O people of Nejd, will the days of al-Naqa ever return
That the tribes may see their homes again?

10. May we renew the old pact of protection
And in the darkness' lap tell tales?

11. And say time has become a true friend,
No more violating pacts or betraying?
