1. If your spirit had visited me, O my love
My eyelids would not have poured tears

2. But my passion for you grew long
When I saw you, my glances fell short

3. O you who softens adamant hearts
And casts darkness or light in them

4. My wonder at your fairness that became just
Under your eyelashes, yet it is most unjust

5. For the one chained by love of you, his fervor
Is ceaseless because of your frequent estrangement

6. Had you not been vain of perfect beauty
I would not have allied with lasting sorrow against you

7. You give honor to whom you wish, and here I am
Enamored of you, a ruler and a commander

8. You sent your cheek, it is a sly serpent
In the respite of the languid, charming eyelid

9. You portrayed an idol for me, so my misguidance increased
When I served it like an idolater's fervor

10. Had I not been compliant to a passion
You kindled, I would have been seized like the Subduer

11. And the saliva of your mouth - what a potent charm
Between me and it, though I seek refuge from its harm

12. I pledged to you and you pledged to me
Sincerity and manifest fidelity from me

13. You blamed me when you blamed my heart for infidelity
Thus you demolished the edifice of my fervent love

14. Is it right in your view that a stream of pouring tears,
Flowing down my fading cheeks, should be wasted?

15. Perforce you will one day spurn union
While I remain enamored, my eyes unchaste

16. I yearn for a cooling draught from your lips
And fear a glance from your apathetic eyes

17. For the calamity, if a blamer blames me, is that he
Admonishes me while your cheeks excuse me

18. What's it to him, when he saw me content
With your betrayal, though it made my hair turn white?

19. O you who stole my youth and demolished
My pillar, know that I am Ahmad's staunch supporter

20. The honor of people and religion, who built lofty glory
Not ceasing to pour his generosity like rain

21. A breast that relates to a torrential source
Glory and majesty stream from it

22. The rain of munificence for every neck in debt
It is a liberator with the copious showers of its hands

23. O Seeker of protected knowledge, fearful
Transgressor of knowledge, of every harmful transgression

24. Aim for Abu al-Barakat's attainments; through him
You will attain virtue, even the zenith of dominance

25. Without him, time would be thoroughly empty
But it became abundantly abundant through his flourishing

26. Gratitude to the most benevolent benefactor
Is an obligation forevermore

27. No garden's blossoms ever smiled
Without the first drops from the weeping clouds

28. Spring adorned it with a pleated robe
Studded with its jewels and fineries

29. The morning sun peers through the clouds' curtains
To pollinate its flowers

30. When the day slides off its robe
And the edge of its limited daylight recedes

31. The cheeks of its sweetheart are protected
From the narcissus's gaze by a wakeful eyelid

32. The breeze moves through it, drawing out
Its train, stumbling through it

33. Bearing in its coolness the fragrance
Of its boughs, redolent with aromas

34. Salute the son of Ahmad, of generosity and loftiness
Spreading, stand and listen to the words of the disseminator

35. Of one whose brow is illuminated by a serene smile
Radiant, forgiving of every infringer

36. Bestowing voluntarily, abstaining, so wondrous is he
From one remembering without being asked, and thankful

37. He attained traits that the dust of time
Cannot penetrate, neither past nor future

38. His wisdom guides him loftily every contentious day
A pen that rises above the clamorous fray

39. It assaults when the turmoil of problems rages
Perplexing with the ferocity of its defiant uprising

40. It seizes the essence of every stored glory
So fate extracts glances of care from it

Guiding it is the judgment of One Most Munificent, His abode

42. Is built upon the circuit of the heavenly sphere
Journeying to the secret of pride, compelling

43. What the example of elevated journeyers inspires
Say to one who stirs up the clamor of inability behind him

44. Yet seeks to match his miracles with insignificant deeds
Can you attain what the shoulders of a vanquished striver attained?

45. While you are more failed than a failing loser
Exalted one, hear a praise never

46. To have occurred to my mind, were it not for you
I used to hide my poems in their cover

47. But your praise revealed them, you noble piercer
To you I complain of the tyranny of a deviant fate

48. With its harm, that visits none but me

49. I hope you will help a Lord of abiding patience
From what He bears and the flowing tears

50. Comfort with your deeds the bitterness of what remains
Of my life, an era that rends like a smasher

51. And make happy with it, so the dew is revealing
I sensed in it every displeasing meaning

52. I perfected its firmness with the skill of one
Of conscience, like the dedicated charger

53. If in this wilderness, a poet says
It has a sister, I will be gathered like an infidel

54. It came from afar, and behind it
None forbade me, from the intensity of my passion

55. So look upon its brightness with an approving look
Pleased, like the forgiving glance of the chaste
