1. For you and the memory of you are a loving mother,
The yearning of return follows misfortune,
١. فَإِنَّكَ وَاِدِّكارَكَ أُمَّ وَهبٍ
حَنينُ العودِ يَتَّبِعِ الظِرابا
2. It remembered the landmarks so it yearned,
And was perplexed by the streets and neighbourhood,
٢. تَذَكَّرَتِ المَعالِمَ فَاِستَحَنَّت
وَأَنكَرَتِ المَشارِعَ وَالجِنابا
3. It spent the night sleepless, lightning appeared
Twinkling in a beloved one - where did it settle?
٣. فَباتَت لا تَنامُ تُشيمُ بَرقاً
تَلَألَأَ في حَبِيٍّ أَينَ صابا
4. In al-Bazwa or at Junub Nisa'
Or did its grazing grounds become desolate.
٤. أَبِالبَزواءِ أَم بِجُنوبِ نِصعٍ
أَمِ اِحتَلَّت رَواياهُ العَنابا
