1. How much affliction I have endured, and tribulation,
Until God brought us victory and triumph.

2. I was patient until its appointed time had passed,
The time decreed by the All-Knowing, All-Wise.

3. Had I not anticipated its passing
With what was required to soothe the soul in youth's rapture,

4. Of blameworthy anguish, sorrow and grief -
I would have brought harm upon harm.

5. For man's anguish in times of tribulation
Is but futile toil that forfeits reward.

6. If God tries you, patience is your rightful duty;
If He favors you, gratitude is your right.

7. Whoever understands this world realizes
It is undoubtedly the abode of woe and evil.

8. So man must be patient throughout his life,
As long as he remains in it.

9. Happy is the servant who spurns its luxuries
And prefers an abode whose goodness is everlasting -

10. Paradise, the Eternal Home, blessed are its dwellings
For those who obeyed God openly and in secret.

11. Men honored by God, who held fast to Him
And to the Radiant Sunnah and the Shining Stars -

12. The Guides of mankind - happy is the servant who saw them
And sat with them even once in his life.
