1. I shed my tears, and tears upon my cheek
Are witness to yearning and heartfelt grief

2. I feel in my heart regret and sadness
For what has befallen me of loneliness and estrangement

3. When the winds blow from Najd, they crowd upon me
Matters that require distance from Najd

4. And from the neighborhood whose love
Has filled my heart, distracting me from nearness and distance

5. Their love is my religion, duty and way
My intimacy, trust, and what I hold most dear

6. In their company I forget myself and find peace
Without them I am nothing if tested with distance

7. And whenever a breeze blows from their lands
Bearing the scent of musk and frankincense

8. The winds of Khuzama and Arak stir in me
Sorrows that leave me lost, repeating and confused

9. What can I do, when my life stretches before me
Yet I cannot reach them or regain what is lost

10. How can I delight in life far removed from them
Even were I king of the world, power in hand

11. I still hope for their nearness and reunion
However long the days ere I meet my end

12. So journey near them, Saad, and let them know
I keep our affection and pact close at heart

13. Tell them of my longing and sleepless nights
And the effort of hiding love’s secrets

14. I remain in a land of exile
Solitude my lot among thousands around

15. Both close and far as if I do not exist
Alone and singular in my path and quest

16. Circumstances and states weary me
With no helper, each piles upon the next

17. Intercede for me, perhaps they will favor
Reunion over division, bequeathing the rest

18. Would that I knew if I’d visit their tents
At dawn, when affection and pact are professed

19. Will time reunite us, will this estrangement
After passing, O Saad, finally end?

20. I hope, and have good faith in my Creator
Exalted, His blessings merit praise

21. God of the land, its every expanse and king
Above likeness, match, or any need
