2. The abode of delusion, the shelter of every disappointed one,
The mine of misery, hardship and affliction.

ูข. ุฏุงุฑู ุงู„ุบูุฑูˆุฑู ูˆูŽู…ูŽุฃูˆู‰ ูƒูู„ู‘ู ู…ูุฒุฑููŠูŽุฉู
ูˆูŽู…ูŽุนุฏูู†ู ุงู„ุจูุคุณู ูˆูŽุงู„ู„ุฃูŽูˆุงุกู ูˆูŽุงู„ู…ูุญูŽู†ู

3. Deceit is its faรงade, treachery its company,
Death its end, and existence its torment.

4. It destroys what you have gathered, disgraces whom it has elevated,
And harms those it once benefited in days gone by.

5. The soul desires it, the eye gazes upon it,
For the beauty of its outward form and charm.

6. Bewitching, it rules the imagination when one sees it,
As if it were the truth though it springs from trials.

7. A fool is one who continues to amass it,
Enduring fruitless toil from Syria to Yemen.

ูŠูุนุงู†ูŠ ุงู„ุณูŽุนูŠูŽ ู…ูู† ุดุงู…ู ุฅุดู„ู‰ ูŠูŽู…ูŽู†ู

8. Girding himself for dangers, striving diligently
So that the rugged ship may be softened for its sake.

ู„ูุฃูŽุฌู„ูู‡ุง ูŠูŽุณุชูŽู„ูŠู†ู ุงู„ู…ูŽุฑูƒูŽุจู ุงู„ุฎูŽุดูู†ู

9. While the wise belittle it in asceticism, rejecting it
As one discards filth into the dunghill.

ูฉ. ูˆูŽุฐูˆ ุงู„ุญูŽุฌุง ูŠูู‚ูู„ู‘ูู‡ุง ุฒูู‡ุฏุงู‹ ูˆูŽูŠูŽู†ุจูุฐูู‡ุง
ูˆูŽุฑุงุกูŽู‡ู ู†ูŽุจุฐูŽุฉูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽู‚ุฐุงุฑู ููŠ ุงู„ุฏูู…ูŽู†ู

10. He casts his enlightened heart into its traps,
So he meets with nothing but worry and sorrow.

ูกู . ุฑูŽู…ู‰ ุจูู‚ูŽู„ุจู ู…ูู†ูŠุฑู ููŠ ู…ูŽุตุงูŠุฏูู‡ุง
ููŽู„ุง ูŠูุตุงุฏููู ุบูŽูŠุฑูŽ ุงู„ู‡ูŽู…ู‘ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุญูŽุฒูŽู†ู

11. He reflects with his thoughts on those it destroyed,
Of its devoted followers in body and soul.

ูกูก. ูŠูŽุฌูˆู„ู ุจูุงู„ูููƒุฑู ููŠ ุชูŽุฐูƒุงุฑู ู…ูŽู† ุตูŽุฑูŽุนูŽุช
ู…ูู† ู…ุซุคุซูุฑูŠู‡ุง ุจูุณูŽุนูŠู ุงู„ู‚ูŽู„ุจู ูˆูŽุงู„ุจูŽุฏูŽู†ู

12. Those who built its edifices and strengthened them
To find safety from fate in madness.

ูกูข. ู…ูู…ู‘ูŽู† ุฃูŽุดุงุฏูŽ ู…ูŽุจุงู†ูŠู‡ุง ูˆูŽุฃูŽุญูƒูŽู…ูŽู‡ุง
ู„ููŠูŽุณุชูŽุฌูู†ู‘ูŽ ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽู‚ุฏุงุฑู ุจูุงู„ุฌูŽู†ูŽู†ู

13. They attained its glories, revived its beacons,
Unsheathed its swords against evil and rancor.

ูกูฃ. ู†ุงู„ูˆุง ู…ูŽูƒุงุฑูู…ูŽู‡ุง ุงูŽุญูŠูˆุง ู…ูŽุนุงู„ูู…ูŽู‡ุง
ุณูŽู„ูˆุง ุตูŽูˆุงุฑูู…ูŽู‡ุง ู„ูู„ุจูŽุบูŠู ูˆูŽุงู„ุถูŽุบูŽู†ู

14. They held its pulpits, led its armies,
With strength, conquering cities and towns.

ูกูค. ุฑูŽู‚ู‘ูˆุง ู…ูŽู†ุงุจูุฑูŽู‡ุง ู‚ุงุฏูˆุง ุนูŽุณุงูƒูุฑูŽู‡ุง
ุจูู‚ููˆู‘ู ูˆูŽุงูุจุชูŽู†ูˆุง ุงู„ุฃูŽู…ุตุงุฑูŽ ูˆูŽุงู„ู…ูุฏูู†ู

15. They enslaved people until they became
Submissive to their command, vanquished and disgraced.

ูกูฅ. ูˆูŽุนูŽุจูŽุฏูˆุง ุงู„ู†ุงุณูŽ ุญูŽุชู‘ู‰ ุฃูŽุตุจูŽุญูˆุง ุฐูู„ูŽู„ุงู‹
ู„ูุฃูŽู…ุฑูู‡ูู… ุจูŽูŠู†ูŽ ู…ูŽุบู„ูˆุจู ูˆูŽู…ูู…ุชูŽู‡ูู†ู

16. They amassed wealth and chose its finest treasures
For the pleasure of the soul in days to come.

ูกูฆ. ูˆูŽุฌูŽู…ูŽุนูˆุง ุงู„ู…ุงู„ูŽ ูˆูŽุงูุณุชูŽุตููˆุง ู†ูŽูุงุฆูุณูŽู‡ู
ู„ูู…ูุชุนูŽุฉู ุงู„ู†ูŽูุณู ููŠ ู…ูุณุชูŽู‚ุจูŽู„ู ุงู„ุฒูŽู…ูŽู†ู

17. Until, when they were fully sated with the success they had attained,
And enabled those they had raised to the highest position.

ูกูง. ุญูŽุชู‘ู‰ ุฅูุฐุง ุงูู…ุชูŽู„ูŽุฆูˆุง ุจูŽุดูŽุฑุงู‹ ุจูู…ุง ุธูŽููŽุฑูˆุง
ูˆูŽู…ูŽูƒู‘ูŽู†ูˆุง ู…ูŽู† ุนูŽู„ุงู‡ุง ุฃูŽุจู„ูŽุบูŽ ุงู„ู…ููƒูŽู†ู

18. The destroyer of pleasures called them, so they embarked
On the paths of death, becoming lessons for the discerning.

ูกูจ. ู†ุงุฏุงู‡ูู… ู‡ุงุฐูŽู…ู ุงู„ู„ูŽุฐุงุชู ููŽุงูู‚ุชูŽุญูŽู…ูˆุง
ุณูุจูู„ูŽ ุงู„ู…ูŽู…ุงุชู ููŽุฃูŽุถุญูˆุง ุนูŽุจุฑูŽุฉูŽ ุงู„ููุทูŽู†ู

19. Those graves, though after corpulence
And fatness of body they lie in dust and clay.

ูกูฉ. ุชูู„ูƒูŽ ุงู„ู‚ูุจูˆุฑู ูˆูŽู‚ูŽุฏ ุตุงุฑูŽูˆุง ุจูู‡ุง ูˆูŽู…ูู…ู‘ุง
ุจูŽุนุฏูŽ ุงู„ุถูŽุฎุงู…ูŽุฉู ููŠ ุงู„ุฃูŽุจุฏุงู†ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุณูŽู…ูŽู†ู

20. After indulgence and eating delicacies, they became
Food for worms beneath the soil and dirt.

ูขู . ุจูŽุนุฏูŽ ุงู„ุชูŽุดูŽู‡ู‘ูŠ ูˆูŽุฃูŽูƒู„ู ุงู„ุทูŽูŠู‘ูุจุงุชู ุบูŽุฏุง
ูŠูŽุฃูƒูู„ูู‡ูู… ุงู„ุฏูˆุฏู ุชูŽุญุชูŽ ุงู„ุชูุฑูŽุจู ูˆูŽุงู„ู„ูŽุจูŽู†ู

21. Their complexions changed, the beauty of their faces vanished,
Along with their eyes and cheeks.

ูขูก. ุชูŽุบูŽูŠู‘ูŽุฑูŽุช ู…ูู†ู‡ูู…ู ุงู„ุฃูŽู„ูˆุงู†ู ูˆูŽุงูู†ู…ูŽุญูŽู‚ูŽุช
ู…ูŽุญุงุณูู†ู ุงู„ูˆูŽุฌู‡ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุนูŽูŠู†ูŽูŠู†ู ูˆูŽุงู„ูˆูŽุฌูŽู†ู

22. Their homes were emptied of them, and they were deserted
By those who used to be intimate with them, openly and in secret.

ูขูข. ุฎูŽู„ู‘ูŽุช ู…ูŽุณุงูƒูู†ูŽู‡ูู… ุนูŽู†ู‡ูู… ูˆูŽุฃูŽุณู„ูŽู…ูŽู‡ูู…
ู…ูŽู† ูƒุงู†ูŽ ูŠูŽุฃูŽู„ูŽููู‡ูู… ููŠ ุงู„ุณูุฑู‘ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุนูŽู„ูŽู†ู

23. They were shunned by all relatives, family and friends
Who used to cherish them.

ูขูฃ. ูˆูŽุนุงููŽู‡ูู… ูƒูู„ู‘ูŽ ู…ูŽู† ู‚ูŽุฏ ูƒุงู†ูŽ ูŠูŽุฃู„ูŽููู‡ูู…
ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽู‚ุงุฑูุจู ูˆูŽุงู„ุฃูŽู‡ู„ูŠู†ูŽ ูˆูŽุงู„ุฎูŽุฏูŽู†ู

24. Of the wealth they had amassed, their share
Was only shrouds, cotton and linen.

ูขูค. ู…ุง ูƒุงู†ูŽ ุญูŽุธู‘ูู‡ูู… ู…ูู† ุนูุฑุถู ู…ุง ุงููƒุชูŽุณูŽุจูˆุง
ุบูŽูŠุฑูŽ ุงู„ุญูŽู†ูˆุทู ูˆูŽุบูŽูŠุฑูŽ ุงู„ู‚ูŽุทูŽู†ู ูˆูŽุงู„ูƒูŽููŽู†ู

25. Those palaces and mansions lie deserted,
With only the desolate cries of owls within them.

ูขูฅ. ุชูู„ูƒูŽ ุงู„ู‚ูุตูˆุฑู ูˆูŽุงู„ุชูู„ูƒูŽ ุงู„ุฏูˆุฑู ุฎุงูˆููŠูŽุฉู‹
ูŠูŽุตูŠุญู ููŠู‡ุง ุบูุฑุงุจู ุงู„ุจูŽูŠู†ู ุจูุงู„ูˆูŽู‡ู†ู

26. Had I passed by them, with owls lamenting them
In the darkness of night, I would not have delighted in luxury,

ูขูฆ. ููŽู„ูŽูˆ ู…ูŽุฑูŽุฑุชู ุจูู‡ุง ูˆูŽุงู„ุจูˆู…ู ูŠูŽู†ุฏูŽุจูู‡ุง
ููŠ ุธูู„ู…ูŽุฉู ุงู„ู„ูŽูŠู„ู ู„ูŽู… ุชูŽู„ุชูŽุฐู‘ู ุจูุงู„ูˆูŽุณูŽู†ู

27. Nor prided myself with fine plumage,
Nor been tempted by love of family and dwelling.

ูขูง. ูˆูŽู„ุง ุชูŽุฌูŽู…ู‘ูŽู„ูŽุช ุจูุงู„ุฃูŽุฑูŠุงุดู ู…ููุชูŽุฎูุฑุงู‹
ูˆูŽู„ุง ุงููุชูŽุชูŽู†ุชูŽ ุจูุญูุจู‘ู ุงู„ุฃูŽู‡ู„ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุณูŽูƒูŽู†ู

28. Nor savored delicacies greedily,
Nor striven among you with the striving of one infatuated.

ูขูจ. ูˆูŽู„ุง ุชูŽู„ูŽุฐู‘ูŽุฐุชู ุจูุงู„ู…ูŽุทุนูˆู…ู ู…ูู†ู‡ูŽู…ููƒุงู‹
ูˆูŽู„ุง ุณูŽุนูŽูŠุชูŽ ู„ูŽุฏูŽูŠู†ุง ุณูŽุนู‰ ู…ููุชูŽุชูŽู†ู

29. Nor taken heed, if I witnessed one exhorting,
Whether I saw him with my eyes or heard him with my ears.

ูขูฉ. ูˆูŽู„ุง ุงูุนุชูŽุจูŽุฑุชูŽ ุฅูุฐุง ุดุงู‡ูŽุฏุชูŽ ู…ูุนุชูŽุจูุฑุงู‹
ุชูŽุฑุงู‡ู ุจูุงู„ุนูŽูŠู†ู ุฃูŽูˆ ุชูŽุณู…ูŽุนูู‡ู ุจูุงู„ุฃูุฐูู†ู

30. Indeed, sermons do not avail a captive of passion,
Whose heart is locked, straying from proper traditions.

ูฃู . ุฅูู†ู‘ูŽ ุงู„ู…ูŽูˆุงุนูุธูŽ ู„ุง ุชูŽุบู†ู‰ ุฃูŽุณูŠุฑูŽ ู‡ูŽูˆู‰
ู…ูู‚ููŽู„ู ุงู„ู‚ูŽู„ุจู ููŠ ุญูŠุฏู ุนูŽู†ู ุงู„ุณูู†ูŽู†ู

31. Arrogant, he turns away from the clear truth when
It comes to him, due to his great ignorance and enmity.

ูฃูก. ู…ูุณุชูŽูƒุจูุฑุงู‹ ูŠูุจุทูุฑู ุงู„ุญูŽู‚ู‘ูŽ ุงู„ุตูŽุฑูŠุญูŽ ุฅูุฐุง
ูŠูŽู„ู‚ู‰ ุฅูู„ูŽูŠู‡ู ู„ูููŽุฑุทู ุงู„ุฌูŽู‡ู„ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุดูู†ูŽู†ู

32. His soul desires something he cannot attain,
For hopes are cut off from favors.

ูฃูข. ูŠูŽู…ู†ู‰ ุงู„ู†ูŽูุณูŽ ุฃูŽู…ุฑุงู‹ ู„ูŽูŠุณูŽ ูŠูุฏุฑููƒูู‡ู
ุฅูู†ู‘ูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽู…ุงู†ูŠ ู…ูŽู‚ุทุงุนูŽ ุนูŽู†ู ุงู„ู…ูู†ูŽู†ู

33. It suffices the sensible one the Book of Allah as an exhortation,
As has come in the hadith of the Master Al-Hasan.

ูฃูฃ. ูŠูŽูƒููŠ ุงู„ู„ูŽุจูŠุจู ูƒูุชุงุจูŽ ุงู„ู„ูŽู‡ู ู…ูŽูˆุนูุธูŽุฉูŒ
ูƒูŽู…ุง ุฃูŽุชู‰ ููŠ ุญูŽุฏูŠุซู ุงู„ุณูŽูŠู‘ูุฏู ุงู„ุญูŽุณูŽู†ู

34. Muhammad is the best of Allah's creation, our exemplar,
Pure of heart from any blemish or blame.

ู…ูุทูŽู‡ู‘ูŽุฑู ุงู„ุฌูŽูŠุจู ุนูŽู† ุนูŽูŠุจู ูˆูŽุนูู† ุฏูŽุฑูŽู†ู

35. Upon him be Allah's eternal blessings
As long as the wind blows with rain and ships sail.

ูฃูฅ. ุนูŽู„ูŽูŠู‡ู ู…ูู†ู‘ุง ุตูŽู„ุงุฉู ุงู„ู„ูŽู‡ู ุฏุงุฆูู…ูŽุฉ
ู…ุง ุณุงุฑูŽุชู ุงู„ุฑูŠุญู ุจูุงู„ุฃูŽู…ุทุงุฑู ูˆูŽุงู„ุณูููู†ู

36. And upon his family and companions as long
As turtledoves coo and the eyes of yearners weep for their homeland.
