1. I have indeed cast off the garb of youthful folly,
Donning the raiment of dignity,
١. وَلَقَد نَزَعتُ عَنِ الغِوا
يَةِ لابِساً ثَوبَ الوَقارِ
2. When the dawn of my cheeks grew bright,
And the night of hoariness was illumined.
٢. لَمّا تَبَلَّجَ فَجرُ فَودي
وَاِنجَلى لَيلُ العِذارِ
3. Knowing well that gray hair reveals
Whatever faults hidden remain,
٣. عِلماً بِأَنَّ الشَيبَ يُظ
هِرُ ما تَسَتَّرَ مِن عَواري
4. So too the suspicious man makes his way by night
And lies low in wait by day.
٤. وَكَذا المُريبُ يَسيرُ لَي
لَتَهُ وَيَكمَنُ بِالنَهارِ
