1. Thus every day the vicissitudes are renewed
And a kingdom made immortal despite enemies
١. كَذا كُلَّ يَومٍ دَولَةٌ تَتَجَدَّدُ
وَمُلكٌ عَلى رَغمِ الأَعادي مُخَلَّدُ
2. And glory ascending on the back of the galaxy
And might firmly established on the brows of stars
٢. وَجَدٌّ عَلى ظَهرِ المَجَرَّةِ صاعِدٌ
وَمَجدٌ عَلى هامِ النُجومِ مُوَطَّدُ
3. And for the virtuous, in every season
There is, at your gates, a standing and lingering
٣. وَلا زالَ لِلعافينَ في كُلِّ مَوسِمِ
وَقوفٌ عَلى أَبوابِكُم وَتَرَدُّدُ
4. Visits of well wishes and your coming together
And the unity of enviers scattered
٤. يَزورُكُمُ فيها التَهاني وَشَملُكُم
جَميعٌ وَشَملُ الحاسِدينِ مُبَدَّدُ
5. For you returns continuity and ease of living
Of gentle margins and abundant shade the most flourishing
٥. يَعودُ إِلَيكُم بِالبَقاءِ وَعَيشُكُم
رَقيقُ الحَواشي وارِفُ الظِلِّ أَغيَدُ
6. So it has not ceased bestowing praise upon you
Hands for you, among us, accustomed and trained
٦. فَلا بَرِحَت تُهدي الثَناءَ إِلَيكُمُ
أَيادٍ لَكُم فينا بَوادٍ وَعُوَّدُ
7. Hands like rings of pigeons and prosperity
By which necks willingly bow and bear witness
٧. أَيادٍ كَأَطواقِ الحَمامِ وَأَنعُمٌ
تَقَرُّ بِها الأَعناقُ طَوعاً وَتَشهَدُ
8. By you Baghdad has become the abode of prestige
The path of dew for its people smoothed
٨. غَدَت بِكُمُ بَغداذُ دارَ كَرامَةٍ
طَريقُ النَدى لِلناسِ فيها مُعَبَّدُ
9. For it you have a towering patience in calamities
Impenetrable and an ocean with generous foam
٩. لَها طَودُ حِلمٍ في الحَوادِثِ مِنكُمُ
مَنيعٌ وَبَحرٌ بِالمَكارِمِ مُزبِدُ
10. And you are a refuge for the weak and shelters for them
And a destination for the generous and springs
١٠. وَأَنتُم مَلاذٌ لِلعُفاةِ وَمَوئِلٌ
بِها وَمُرادٌ لِلسَماحِ وَمَورِدُ
11. And how many a hand does the minister son of Muzaffar have
To its people, white while fate is black
١١. وَكَم لِلوَزيرِ اِبنِ المُظَفَّرِ مِن يَدٍ
إِلى أَهلِها بَيضاءَ وَالدَهرُ أَسوَدُ
12. And were it not for him whatever disasters in it
Would have no protector or fortunate on hardships
١٢. وَلَولاهُ أَضحَت ما بِها مِن مُلِمَّةٍ
مُجيرٌ وَلا فيها عَلى الخَطبِ مُسعِدُ
13. A minister who came into the world with experienced eyes
Seeing that earning praise is more lasting and beneficial
١٣. وَزيرٌ أَتى الدُنيا بِعَينِ تَجَرُّبٍ
يَرى أَنَّ كَسبَ الحَمدِ أَجدى وَأَعوَدُ
14. For the beautiful memory remains immortalized
For its earner while money perishes and runs out
١٤. فَإِنَّ جَميلَ الذِكرى يَبقى مُخَلَّداً
لِكاسِبِهِ وَالمالُ يَفنى وَيَنفَدُ
15. So he spent wealth whose garb time renews
And left praise whose mention is made new
١٥. فَأَفنى ثَراءً يُخلِقُ الدَهرُ ثَوبَهُ
وَأَبقى ثَناءً ذِكرُهُ مُتَجَدِّدُ
16. So O pillar of religion who has spread freshness
And sheltered the stranger of merit while deserted
١٦. فَيا عَضُدَ الدينِ الَّذي أَنشَرَ النَدى
وَآوى غَريبَ الفَضلِ وَهوَ مُشَرَّدُ
17. Time with its reversals has indeed
Through every tongue in your time become praiseworthy
١٧. لَقَد أَصبَحَ الدَهرُ المُذَمَّمُ صَرفُهُ
بِكُلِّ لِسانٍ في زَمانِكَ يُحمَدُ
18. And I swear by the nights' events paying a visit
To the people of merit while they sit and stand
١٨. وَعَهدي بِأَحداثِ اللَيالي ضَوارِياً
تَقومُ بِأَهلِ الفَضلِ فيها وَتَقعُدُ
19. Is there an escape for the tyrant tribulations
To a country in it the minister Muhammad
١٩. وَهَل لِلخُطوبِ الجائِراتِ مُخَلَّصٌ
إِلى بَلدَةٍ فيها الوَزيرِ مُحَمَّدُ
20. Spends the night like the Kaaba for people's charity
To it yearned and it sought
٢٠. يَبيتُ مِنَ الإِحسانِ لِلناسِ كَعبَةً
يُحَجُّ إِلَيها بِالأَماني وَيَقصَدُ
21. From every direction hopes pray to it
And this lauded praise is gifted to it
٢١. تُصَلّي لَها الآمالُ مِن كُلِّ وَجهَةٍ
وَيَهدى لَها هَذا المَديحُ الُقَلَّدُ
22. I swore by God's house an oath of the truthful
Sincere without excess or pretense
٢٢. حَلَفتُ بَبيتِ اللَهِ حَلفَةَ صادِقِ ال
أَلِيَّةِ لا يَغلو وَلا يَتَزَيَّدُ
23. You are the most righteous of people in self and easiness
And the most generous of homes new and glorious
٢٣. لَأَنتَ أَبَرُّ الناسِ نَفساً وَراحَةً
وَأَكرَمُهُم بَيتاً جَديداً وَأَمجَدُ
24. And your hands have encompassed the land with justice and bliss
So neither injustice or misery in the land is witnessed
٢٤. وَعَمَّت يَداكَ الأَرضَ عَدلاً وَنائِلاً
فَلا الظُلم في الدُنيا وَلا العُدمُ يوجَدُ
25. You thrilled in a year you are its fortunate star
And the days continue to heal and make joyful
٢٥. سَعِدتَ بِعامٍ أَنتَ كَوكَبُ سَعدِهِ
وَلا زالَتِ الأَيّامُ تَشفي وَتُسعِدُ
