And O leader whom attributes have rendered speechless

ูˆูุนูˆุฏูู‡ู ู„ุง ุชูุฎู„ูŽูู

2. He who has no hesitation or pause for any questioner
His habit is generosity and softness

ูข. ูˆูŽูŠุง ุฅูู…ุงู…ุงู‹ ุฃูŽุนุฌูŽุฒูŽุช
ุตููุงุชูู‡ู ู…ูŽู† ูŠูŽุตููู

3. O you whose determination is like the sharp edge of a sword
Remaining firm when heroesโ€™ feet tremble

ูฃ. ู…ุง ุนูู†ุฏูŽู‡ู ู„ูุณุงุฆูู„ู
ุฑูŽุฏู‘ูŒ ูˆูŽู„ุง ุชูŽูˆูŽู‚ู‘ููู

4. And whose qualities are most subtle
With glances that do not glance

ูค. ูˆูŽู„ูู„ุณูŽู…ุงุญู ูˆูŽุงู„ู†ูŽุฏู‰
ุชูŽู„ูŠุฏูู‡ู ูˆูŽุงู„ู…ูุทุฑูŽูู

5. His days are a garden of sorrow
Without injustice, tyranny or arrogance

ูฅ. ูŠุง ู…ูŽู† ู„ูŽู‡ู ุนูŽุฒู…ูŒ ูƒูŽุญูŽุฏ
ุฏู ุงู„ู…ูŽุดุฑูŽูููŠู‘ู ู…ูุฑู‡ูŽูู

6. With cheeks whose bloom is plucked in moments
And saliva with which bitter aloes are tempered

ูฆ. ูŠูŽุซุจูุชู ููŠ ุงู„ุฑูŽูˆุนู ูˆูŽุฃูŽู‚
ุฏุงู…ู ุงู„ูƒูู…ุงุฉู ุชูŽุฑุฌููู

7. With a stature that makes my heart flutter madly
And a stolen glance - when I see it I am carried away

ูง. ูˆูŽู…ูŽู† ู„ูŽู‡ู ุดูŽู…ุงุฆูู„ูŒ
ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุดูŽู…ูˆู„ู ุฃูŽู„ุทูŽููŽ

8. I incline toward him yet his heart is like rock, unbending
And a life with him the like of which is matchless

ูŠุงุทูŽุฑููู‡ุง ู„ุง ูŠูŽุทุฑููู

9. Can the past be compensated or replaced?
I yearn for those days though yearning is futile

ูฉ. ุฃูŽูŠู‘ุงู…ูู‡ู ู„ูุญูุณู†ูู‡ุง
ุฑูŽูˆุถูŽุฉู ุญูŽุฒู†ู ุฃูู†ููู

10. A pact of flowing sincerity when he swears an oath
Indeed, al-โ€˜Abbas rules justly in his judgement

ูกู . ู„ูŽูŠุณูŽ ุจูู‡ุง ุธูู„ู…ูŒ ูˆูŽู„ุง
ุฌูŽูˆุฑูŒ ูˆูŽู„ุง ุชูŽุนูŽุฌุฑููู

11. And he is the noblest who has trodden the earth
My praise of him is free of pretence

ูกูก. ุฃูŽู…ุง ูˆูŽุฎูŽุฏู‘ู ูˆูŽุฑุฏูู‡ู
ุจูุงู„ู„ูŽุญูŽุธุงุชู ูŠูู‚ุทูŽูู

12. More radiant than a pearl when cleft from its shell
Like water - no affectation in its composition

ูกูข. ูˆูŽุฑูŠู‚ูŽุฉู ูŠูู…ุฒูŽุฌู ู„ูŠ
ุจูู‡ุง ุงู„ุณูู„ุงูู ุงู„ู‚ูŽุฑู‚ูŽูู

13. I have filled the pages with all I have dictated of it
So make the most of my praise, for I am a fleeting visitor

ูกูฃ. ูˆูŽู‚ุงู…ูŽุฉู ูŠูŽู‡ููˆ ุจูู‚ูŽู„
ุจูŠ ู‚ูŽุฏู‘ูู‡ุง ุงู„ู…ูู‡ูŽูู‡ูŽูู

14. I have grown old in your service, an honor to me
And the slave is a fragile vessel, prone to decay

ูกูค. ูˆูŽู…ูุฎุทูŽูู ู„ูŽูˆู†ูŠ ุฅูุฐุง
ุฑูŽุฃูŽูŠุชูู‡ู ูŠูŽู†ุฎูŽุทููู

15. After old age there remains only death or senility
And he leaves behind a family with conflicting interests

ูกูฅ. ุฃูŽุนุทูููู‡ู ูˆูŽู‚ูŽู„ุจูู‡ู
ูƒูŽุงู„ุตูŽุฎุฑู ู„ุง ูŠูŽู†ุนูŽุทููู

16. They burden him with unwanted duties
Where is the wherewithal for such duties?

ูกูฆ. ูˆูŽุนูŠุดูŽุฉู ุฏูŽู‡ุฑูŠ ุนูŽู„ูŽูŠ
ูŠูŽ ู…ูุซู„ูŽู‡ุง ู„ุงุชูŽุฎู„ููู

17. And with financial woes he carries stoically
His soul recoils from praising the worthless

ูกูง. ูˆูŽู‡ูŽู„ ู„ูู…ุงุถู ู…ูู† ุดูŽุจุง
ุจู ุนููˆูŽุถูŒ ุฃูŽูˆ ุฎูŽู„ูŽูู

18. He is not like others, guarded and restrained
Singing praises of the palm even when it bears no fruit

ูกูจ. ู„ูŽู‡ููŠ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุฃูŽูŠู‘ุงู…ูู‡ุง
ู„ูŽูˆ ูŠูŽู†ููŽุนู ุงู„ุชูŽู„ูŽู‡ู‘ููู

19. So look upon him, now that the critic is tested
Your wise governance will improve his situation

ูกูฉ. ุญูู„ููŽุฉูŽ ุจูŽุฑู‘ู ุตุงุฏูู‚ู ุงู„
ู„ูŽู‡ุฌูŽุฉู ุญูŠู†ูŽ ูŠูŽุญู„ููู

20. And there has grown for the community, O Lord of Men, an heir
Who is accustomed to the cage and flutters around it

ูขู . ุฅูู†ู‘ูŽ ุฃูŽุจุง ุงู„ุนูŽุจู‘ุงุณู ุนูŽุฏ
ู„ูŒ ููŠ ุงู„ู‚ูŽุถุงุกู ู…ูู†ุตููู

21. He brings me joy - the little one still fluttering
Without inheritance or one to inherit after me

ูขูก. ูˆูŽุฅูู†ู‘ูŽู‡ู ุฃูŽูƒุฑูŽู…ู ู…ูŽู†
ุฏุงุณูŽ ุงู„ุซูŽุฑู‰ ูˆูŽุฃูŽุดุฑูŽูู

22. I have no possessions or household to bequeath
My tears of affection for him flow freely

ูขูข. ูˆูŽุฅูู†ู‘ูŽ ู…ูŽุฏุญูŠ ููŠู‡ู ู„ุง
ูŠูŽุฏุฎูู„ูู‡ู ุงู„ุชูŽูƒูŽู„ู‘ููู

23. I have tested him and found him refined and learned
With no arrogance, vanity or haughtiness

ูขูฃ. ู…ูŽุฏุญูŒ ูƒูŽู†ููˆู‘ุงุฑู ุงู„ุฑูŽุจูŠ
ุนู ูˆูŽุดูŠูู‡ู ู…ูููŽูˆู‘ูŽูู

24. His fruits have ripened and will soon be plucked
His desire is service in the office and administration

ูขูค. ุฃูŽุจู‡ู‰ ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุฏูุฑู‘ู ุฅูุฐุง
ู…ุง ุดูู‚ู‘ูŽ ุนูŽู†ู‡ู ุงู„ุตูŽุฏูŽูู

25. So plant him in a position where he can rise high
And be recognized among the people for his rank

ูขูฅ. ูƒูŽุงู„ู…ุงุกู ู…ุง ููŠ ู†ูŽุธู…ูู‡ู
ูƒูŽู„ู‘ูŒ ูˆูŽู„ุง ุชูŽูƒูŽู„ู‘ููู

26. As long as the grasps of the Pleiades twist and turn
And after two months when the fodder is depleted

ูขูฆ. ู‚ูŽุฏ ู…ูู„ูุฆูŽุช ุนูŽู†ู‘ูŠ ุจูู…ุง
ุฃูŽู…ู„ูŽูŠุชู ู…ูู†ู‡ู ุงู„ุตูุญููู

27. And the feast day arrives with its celebrations
You will see him in the procession, banner held high

ูขูง. ููŽุงูุบุชูŽู†ูู…ูˆุง ู…ูŽุฏุญูŠ ููŽุฅูู†
ู†ูŠ ุฒุงุฆูุฑูŒ ู…ูู†ุตูŽุฑููู

28. As if in his black garb he were a rising moon
Remaining with us, dispelling doubts and revealing truths

ูˆูŽู„ูŠ ุจูุฐุงูƒูŽ ุงู„ุดูŽุฑูŽูู

29. A protected and victorious ruler, gentle yet firm
What travels in darkness and a flash of lightning that captures.

ูŠูุฎุดู‰ ุนูŽู„ูŽูŠู‡ู ุงู„ุชูŽู„ูŽูู
