2. While I travel from your land
Roaming the countries and gaining knowledge

3. Is there not one man among you
Moved by glory and eminence

4. To grant me a favor by which
My gratitude is bound and enslaved?

5. And be furiously angry on my behalf
With which the corrupt is reformed by the righteous

6. Indeed, my literature has honored me among you
As the beard honors the emeralds

7. Is there anyone among you but for his poetry
Gentle and his mind excellent

8. You are pleased for him to be sung about
And delighted that he recites

9. I swear a loaf for me
From your words, swaying, excellent

10. I see the sea blocking you
And I have no way to cross his sword

11. The best of you distance themselves if I come near
And the worst do not distance

ุนูŽู†ู‘ูŠ ูˆูŽุงู„ุดูŽุฑู‘ู ู„ุง ูŠูŽุจุนูŽุฏู

12. And I witness on the day of encounter
Even if the spoils are divided, I do not witness

13. I plant my praise but do not harvest it
I sow my gratitude but do not reap it

14. I sell my poems and books but no hand
Reaches out to me with provision

15. Time treats me unjustly with its turns
As if its events were icy

ุฃูุนุงู†ู ุนูŽู„ูŠู‡ู ูˆูŽู„ุง ุฃูู†ุฌูŽุฏู

16. Does no generous man among you become alert for me
To assist me in it or make me happy?

ูƒูŽุฃูŽู†ู‘ูŽ ุญูŽูˆุงุฏูุซูŽู‡ู ู…ูุจุฑูŽุฏู

17. I will wait patiently
Perhaps its results will be praised

18. And if the market of my praise to you is shut down
The market of books does not shut down

ู„ูŽุนูŽู„ู‘ูŽ ุนูŽูˆุงู‚ูุจูŽู‡ู ุชูุญู…ูŽุฏู

19. And I will leave you for a city
In which, in adversities, there is one who provides

20. I will settle in its place among its people
With virtue in it, not denied

ุจูู‡ุง ููŠ ุงู„ุดูŽุฏุงุฆูุฏู ู…ูŽู† ูŠูŽุฑููุฏู

21. To a city where troubles do not stand
With the free man in it, nor sit

ูขูก. ุฃูŽุญูู„ู‘ู ู…ูŽุญูŽู„ู‘ูŠ ู…ูู† ุฃูŽู‡ู„ูู‡ุง
ุจูููŽุถู„ู ููŠู‡ุง ูˆูŽู„ุง ูŠูุฌุญูŽุฏู

22. The water of generosity in it does not become bitter
The wind of noble deeds does not still

ูขูข. ุฅูู„ู‰ ุจูŽู„ุฏูŽุฉู ู„ุง ุชูŽู‚ูˆู…ู ุงู„ุฎูุทูˆุจู
ุจูุงู„ุญูุฑู‘ู ููŠู‡ุง ูˆูŽู„ุง ุชูŽู‚ุนูŽุฏู

23. Neither do starving lions die in it
Nor dogs become aggressive

ูขูฃ. ููŽู…ุงุกู ุงู„ุณูŽู…ุงุญู ุจูู‡ุง ู„ุง ูŠูŽุบูŠุถู
ูˆูŽุฑูŠุญู ุงู„ู…ูŽูƒุงุฑูู…ู ู„ุง ุชูŽุฑูƒูุฏู

24. Its days make peace with its people
So the sword of troubles in it is sheathed

ูขูค. ูˆูŽู„ุง ุงู„ุฃูŽุณูŽุฏู ุงู„ูˆูŽุฑุฏู ููŠู‡ุง ูŠูŽู…ูˆุชู
ุฌูˆุนุงู‹ ูˆูŽู„ุง ุงู„ูƒูŽู„ุจู ูŠูŽุณุชูŽุฃุณูุฏู

25. May God protect Baghdad from an abode
In which every noble act is missed

ููŽุณูŽูŠูู ุงู„ุฎูุทูˆุจู ุจูู‡ุง ู…ูุบู…ูŽุฏู

26. This is the house - neither is my living in it
Shady, nor is my time in it wasted

ูขูฆ. ู„ูŽุญู‰ ุงู„ู„ูŽู‡ู ุจูุบูŽุฏุงุฐูŽ ู…ูู† ู…ูŽูˆุทูู†ู
ุจูู‡ู ูƒูู„ู‘ู ู…ูŽูƒุฑูู…ูŽุฉู ุชููู‚ูŽุฏู

27. The breeze of passions in it is cool
And the market of poetry in it is cooler

ูขูง. ู‡ููŠูŽ ุงู„ุฏุงุฑู ู„ุง ุธูู„ู‘ู ุนูŽูŠุดูŠ ุจูู‡ุง
ุธูŽู„ูŠู„ูŒ ูˆูŽู„ุง ุฒูŽู…ูŽู†ูŠ ุฃูŽุบูŠุฏู

28. And the morals of its inhabitants are like fresh water
But their hands are frozen

ูขูจ. ู†ูŽุณูŠู…ู ุงู„ู‡ูŽูˆููŠู‘ู ุจูู‡ุง ุจุงุฑูุฏูŒ
ูˆูŽุณูˆู‚ู ุงู„ู‚ูŽุฑูŠุถู ุจูู‡ุง ุฃูŽุจุฑูŽุฏู

29. So the palms of cultured men are clenched
And the face of humanity is cold

ูขูฉ. ูˆูŽุฃูŽุฎู„ุงู‚ู ุณููƒู‘ุงู†ูู‡ุง ูƒูŽุงู„ุฒูู„ุงู„ู
ูˆูŽู„ูŽูƒูู†ู‘ูŽ ุฃูŽูŠุฏูŠู‡ูู…ู ุฌูŽู„ู…ูŽุฏู

30. The clouds of noble deeds do not drizzle
And the fire of injustices is not extinguished

ูฃู . ููŽูƒูŽูู‘ู ุงู„ุนูŽูˆุงุฑููู ู…ูŽู‚ุจูˆุถูŽุฉู ุงู„ุจูŽู†ุงู†ู
ูˆูŽูˆูŽุฌู‡ู ุงู„ู†ูŽุฏู‰ ุฃูŽุฑุจูŽุฏู

31. Every day in it the lower class is seen
In charge but not suitable for it

ูฃูก. ูˆูŽุณูุญุจู ุงู„ู…ูŽูƒุงุฑูู…ู ู„ุง ุชูŽุณุชูŽู‡ูู„ู‘ู
ูˆูŽู†ุงุฑู ุงู„ู…ูŽุธุงู„ูู…ู ู„ุง ุชูŽุฎู…ูŽุฏู

32. He struggles without his origin and kin supporting him
And he is abandoned by family and allies

ูฃูข. ูŠูุฑู‰ ูƒูู„ู‘ูŽ ูŠูŽูˆู…ู ุจูู‡ุง ุณููู„ูŽุฉูŒ
ูŠูŽุณูˆุฏู ูˆูŽู„ูŽู…ูŽ ูŠูŽู†ู…ูู‡ู ุณูˆุฏูŽุฏู

33. He admires the scent of his clothes
While his origin and birth are wicked

ูฃูฃ. ูŠูู†ุงุถูู„ู ู…ูู† ุฏูˆู†ูู‡ู ูˆูŽูุฑูู‡ู
ูˆูŽูŠูŽุฎุฐูู„ูู‡ู ุงู„ุฃูŽุตู„ู ูˆูŽุงู„ู…ูŽุญุชูุฏู

34. His actions rival kings
While his fathersโ€™ baseness testifies against him

ูฃูค. ูˆูŽูŠูุนุฌูุจูู‡ู ุทูŠุจู ุฃูŽุซูˆุงุจูู‡ู
ูˆูŽู‚ูŽุฏ ุฎูŽุจูุซูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽุตู„ู ูˆูŽุงู„ู…ูŽูˆู„ูุฏู

35. He focuses on whitening his clothes
While the face of time because of him is blackened

ูฃูฅ. ูŠูุจุงุฑูŠ ุงู„ู…ูู„ูˆูƒูŽ ูˆูŽุฃูŽูุนุงู„ูู‡ู
ุจูุฎูุณู‘ูŽุฉู ุขุจุงุฆูู‡ู ุชูŽุดู‡ูŽุฏู

36. And while you see him in a condition
That the envious admire his gentleness

ูฃูฆ. ูˆูŽูŠูŽุนู†ู‰ ุจูู…ูุจูŠูŽุถู‘ู ุฃูŽุซูˆุงุจูู‡ู
ูˆูŽูˆูŽุฌู‡ู ุงู„ุฒูŽู…ุงู†ู ุจูู‡ู ุฃูŽุณูˆูŽุฏู

37. Until you see him appointed
With the inkwell behind him and the desk in front

ูฃูง. ููŽุจูŽูŠู†ุง ุชูŽุฑุงู‡ู ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุญุงู„ูŽุฉู
ูŠูŽุฑูู‚ู‘ู ู„ูุฑูู‚ู‘ูŽุชูู‡ุง ุงู„ุญูุณู‘ูŽุฏู

38. I settled in it unwillingly, not settling
When people settle and I do not contract

ูฃูจ. ุฅูู„ู‰ ุฃูŽู† ุชูŽุฑุงู‡ู ูˆูŽู‚ูŽุฏ ุฃูŽู…ู‘ูŽู‡ู
ุงู„ุฏูŽูˆุงุฉู ูˆูŽู…ูู† ุฎูŽู„ููู‡ู ุงู„ู…ูุณู†ูŽุฏู

39. As the black stone settled in the grasp
Of the Qarmatian, may his greetings be stoned

ูฃูฉ. ุญูŽู„ูŽู„ุชู ุจูู‡ุง ูƒุงุฑูู‡ุงู‹ ู„ุง ุฃูŽุญูู„ู‘ู
ุฅูุฐุง ุงู„ู†ุงุณู ุญูŽู„ู‘ูˆุง ูˆูŽู„ุง ุฃูŽุนู‚ูุฏู

40. It is as if when I resided
In its outskirts for some time, seated,

41. The affliction grew long against one humiliated
And the likes of me does not sleep on injustice

42. I have no resolve to rise up
With which my blanket at night would be folded

43. The envious bite their palms because of it
And the likes of me are envied for the like of it
