فادِحٍ لا تُطيقُهُ الأَعداءُ

٧. وَكَشَفتَ الغَمّاءَ عَن مَوطِنٍ لَو
لاكَ فيهِ لَم تُكشَفِ الغَمّاءُ

8. When summoned, though known for its defiance.
Iraq cried out for you after losing its glory.

٨. وَأَطاعَتكَ أَرضُ مِصرٍ وَمِصرٌ
حينَ تُدعى وَحشِيَّةٌ عَصماءُ

9. Your call restored its vitality.
The nomads of Upper Egypt can melt rock—

تُكَ وَهيَ العَقيلَةُ العَذراءُ

مُ الهُدى وَالأَئِمَّةُ العُلَماءُ

٢٦. لا يُعَدُّ الفَخارُ وَالشَرَفُ البا
ذِخُ إِلّا لِقَومِكُم وَالعَلاءُ

27. For the Romans and the churches it is misery,
While for Syria and Iraq it is bliss.

٢٧. لَكُمُ المَحتِدُ المُقَدَّسُ وَالمَج
دُ القُدامى وَالغُرَّةُ القَعساءُ

While to others it is a song of joy.

٢٨. وَمَزايا مَآثِرٍ كَالحَصا يَن
فَدُ مِن دونِ عَدِّها الإِحصاءُ

٣٤. رُبَّ يَومٍ عَلى العِدى أَيوَمٍ تَت
لوهُ بِالشَرِّ لَيلَةٌ لَيلاءُ

35. The devout women campaigned for it through prayer—
Their weapon was supplication.

٣٥. حَسَمَت فيهِ بِالصَوارِمِ آرا
ؤُكَ داءَ العَدُوِّ وَالبَغيُ داءُ

36. The enemy legions were left as carrion for eagles—
Their corpses watered the land.

٣٦. أَبرَأَت داءَ صَدرِهِ وَمَتى أَع
ضَلَ داءٌ فَالمَشرَفِيُّ دَواءُ

37. How can the brigades of the Abbasids—
The Prophet's family—meet defeat when the black banner is amongst them?

٣٧. عاجَلَتهُ بَهِمَّةٍ تَسَعُ الدُن
يا وَجَيشٍ يَضيقُ عَنهُ الفَضاءُ

38. Victory pledged never to abandon an army of theirs

٣٨. هِمَّةٍ أَزعَجَت قُلوبَ الأَعادي
وَاِطمَأَنَّت بِعَدلِها الدَهماءُ

٤١. مُستَقِلٌّ عِبءَ الخِلافَةِ مِنهُ
هِمَّةٌ لا تَؤودُها الأَعباءُ

42. You do not fear enemies or avoid

٤٢. هاشِمِيٌّ عَلى مُحَيّاهُ مِن هَد
يِ النَبِيِّ اِبنِ عَمِّهِ سيماءُ

43. Each day, cavalry arrives at your court—
Fresh batches constantly coming.

٤٣. لَيسَ إِلّا لِلَّهِ أَو لِأَميرِ ال
مُؤمِنينَ العُلُوُّ وَالكِبرِياءُ

44. Delegation upon delegation whose hopes
In your grace perished in the arid desert.

٤٤. وَلَقَد سَرَّ آنِفاً ظَفَرٌ جا
ءَت عَلى رِقبَةٍ بِهِ الأَنباءُ

45. Messengers of kings who never ruled those lands—
No princes commanded them before you.

٤٥. خَبَرٌ طَبَّقَت بَشائِرُهُ الأَر
ضَ فَمِنهُ السَرّاءُ وَالضَرّاءُ

46. Their languages, religions, customs and attire
Differ, as do their names.

٤٦. فَهوَ في الرومِ وَالكَنائِسِ رُزءٌ
وَهوَ في الشَأمِ وَالعِراقِ هَناءٌ

47. Yet your generosity made them kindred,
As if they are of common stock.

٤٧. وَتُراهُ في سَمعِ قَومٍ نَعِيّاً
وَهوَ في سَمعِ آخَرينَ غِناءُ

48. They descended to your hospitality in the gardens of Eden,
Shaded by bounties.

٤٨. وَقعَةٌ بِالثُغورِ أَمسى لِكَلبِ ال
رومِ فيها مِنَ الزَئيرِ عُواءُ

49. Your munificence stripped their hearts of malice—
Generosity unbecoming, yet your way of giving.

٤٩. غادَرَتهُ خَوفاً وَأَكبَرُ ما يَر
جوهُ بَعدَ المُلكِ العَقيمِ النَجاءُ

50. They greet each other with honor and respect—
No hatred or resentment.

٥٠. يَومَ وافى الخَليجَ حَرّانَ لا يَم
لِكُ نَقعَ الغَليلِ مِنهُ الماءُ

51. Under your protection, they enjoy security,
Kindness, exoneration and care.

٥١. وَرَماهُ عَلى اللُقانِ اِبنُ مَسعو
دٍ بِنَحسٍ غَداةَ جَدَّ اللِقاءُ

52. When they leave your lands, they feel
That their own countries have become foreign.

٥٢. رَقَّتِ النَصرَ حينَ أَوفَت عَلى أَع
وادِها في بِلادِكَ الخُطَباءُ

53. A tradition of magnanimity instituted by your noble
Forefathers for the people.

٥٣. فَأَمَدَتهُ راحَتاكَ بِإِمدا
دِ جُيوشٍ مِضمارُهُنَّ السَماءُ

54. Remain thus, O Master of the Age, may your days
Continue in the same spirit, with contentment abounding,

٥٤. ناضَلَت عَنهُ بِالدُعاءِ وَيا رُب
بَ أَكُفٍّ سِلاحُهُنَّ الدُعاءُ

55. Commanding, your will the compass
And fate facilitating your desires,

٥٥. لَم تَعُد عَنهُمُ الظُبا حينَ أَشلا
ها عَلَيهِم إِلّا وَهُم أَشلاءُ

56. In lasting bliss, free of decline,
And delight requiring no cessation.

٥٦. شارَفَتهُم زُرقُ الأَسِنَّةِ هيماً
وَاِنثَنَت وَهيَ بِالدِماءِ رَواءُ

57. You are above eulogies for nights
When congratulations for your wellbeing are fitting.

٥٧. كَفِلَت بيضُهُ لِأَرضٍ أَغاضوا
ماءَها أَن تَسيلَ فيها الدِماءُ

58. Listen patiently as none of your predecessors
Were ever praised in this manner—

٥٨. أَجدَبَت عِندَ وَطئِهِم فَسَقَتهُم
دَيمَةٌ مِن دِمائِهِم وَطفاءُ

59. Pure, unadulterated praise, though poets
May derive different meanings from it later.

٥٩. كَيفَ تُلوى كَتيبَةٌ لِبَني العَب
باسِ آلِ النَبِيِّ فيها لِواءُ

60. Like wine which stirs the generous man to charity,
New benefits flow from it.

٦٠. أَقسَمَ النَصرُ لا يُفارِقُ جَيشاً
لَهُمُ فيهِ رايَةٌ سَوداءُ

61. It draws open-handedness from the stingy,
And courage from the coward.

٦١. وَيَميناً لِتَملِكَنَّ وَشيكاً
ما أَظَلَّتهُ تَحتَها الخَضراءُ

62. My praise is for you, though its effects will unfold
Gradually, in the verses of poets after me.

٦٢. وَلَيوفي عَلى أَقاصي خُراسا
نَ غَداً مِنكَ غارَةٌ شَعواءُ

٦٣. بِجِيوشٍ تَصُمُّ مَسمَعَ أَهلِ ال
صينِ مِنها كَتيبَةٌ خَرساءُ

٦٤. رامِياً في بِلادِها التُركَ بِالتُر
كِ فَتَغزو آباءَها الأَبناءُ

٦٥. كَم تُذادُ الجِيادُ وَهيَ إِلى جَي
حونَ مِن بَعدِ نيلِ مِصرَ ظِماءُ

٦٦. إِن تَناءى مَزارُها فَسَيُدني
ها إِلَيكَ الإِدلاجُ وَالإِسراءُ

٦٧. لَستَ مِمَّن يَخشى عَدُوّاً وَلا تَن
أى عَلَيهِ مَسافَةٌ عَدواءُ

٦٨. كُلَّ يَومٍ أَنضاءُ رَكبٍ عَلى با
بِكَ مِنهُم رَكائِبٌ أَنضاءُ

٦٩. وَوُفودٌ عَلى وُفودٍ أَبادَت
عيسَهُم في رَجائِكَ البَيداءُ

٧٠. رُسُلاً لِلمُلوكِ ما مَلَكَت أَم

دَكَ جودٌ لا يَنبَغى وَعَطاءُ

رامِ لا بُغضَةٌ وَلا شَحناءُ

٧٦. لَهُمُ في جِوارِكَ الأَمنُ وَالمَع
روفُ عَفواً وَالبِرُّ وَالإِحفاءُ

٧٧. فَإِذا فارَقوا بِلادَكَ ظَنّوا
أَنَهُم في بِلادِهِم غُرَباءُ

٧٨. سُنَّةٌ في السَماحِ ما سَنَّها لِل
ناسِ إِلّا آباؤُكَ الكُرَماءُ

٧٩. فَاِبقَ يا صاحِبَ الزَمانِ فَأَيّا
مُكَ في مِثلِها يَطيبُ البَقاءُ

٨٠. آمِراً يَقتَضي أَوامِرَكَ الدَه
رُ وَيَجري بِما تَشاءُ القَضاءُ

٨١. في نَعيمٍ لا يَعتَريهِ زَوالٌ
وَسُرورٍ لا يَقتَضيهِ اِنقِضاءُ

٨٢. أَنتَ أَعلى مِن أَن نُهَنّيكَ قَدراً
لِلَّيالي إِذا سَلِمتَ الهَناءُ

٨٣. وَاِستَمِعها عَذراءَ ما مُدِحَت قَب
لَكَ يَوماً بِمِثلِها الخُلَفاءُ

٨٤. حُرَّةٌ مَحضَةٌ وَمازالَتِ الأَش
عارُ مِنها لَقائِطٌ وَإِماءُ

٨٥. كَالمُدامِ الشَمولِ يَحدُثُ في عِط
فِ السَخِيِّ الكَريمِ مِنها اِنتِشاءُ

٨٦. فِقَرٌ يَجتَدي السَماحَةَ وَالإِق
دامُ مِنها البُخّالُ وَالجُبَناءُ

٨٧. مِدَحٌ فيكَ لي سَيَقتَصُّ آثا
رِيَ فيها مِن بَعدي الشُعَراءُ
