1. O you who feel secure in your youth,
Yet you have grasped at the weakest means [of life],
١. يا واثِقاً مِن عُمرِهِ بِشَبيبَةٍ
وَثِقَت يَداكَ بِأَضعَفِ الأَسبابِ
2. You have lost what could avail you were it to remain,
Yet you have kept what foretells its passing away,
٢. ضَيَّعتَ ما يُجدي عَلَيكَ بَقاؤُهُ
وَحَفِظتَ ماهُوَ مُؤذِنٌ بِذَهابِ
3. Wealth is not regulated in your hands by calculation,
And you spend your life without any reckoning.
٣. أَلمالُ يُضبَطُ في يَديكَ حِسابُهُ
وَالعُمرُ تُنفِقُهُ بِغَيرِ حِسابِ
