قلبي في حبك معمود

1. My heart is immersed in love for you
And the delight of my eyes is in seeing you

١. قَلبي في حُبِّكِ مَعمودُ
وَحَظُّ عَيني مِنكِ تَسهيدُ

2. My debts to you have no end
I pay them but the promises are never fulfilled

٢. ما لِدُيوني فيكَ مَمطولَةً
أُقضى وَلا تُقضى المَواعيدُ

3. I am a spring of connection, denied of drinking
My lifetime has passed barred

٣. مَنهَلُ وَصلٍ أَنا عَن وِردِهِ
مُحَلَّأٌ دَهري مَصدودُ

4. O my reproacher in love and passion cannot
Be curbed by blame or discouragement

٤. ياعاذِلي في الحُبِّ وَالصَبُّ لا
يَردَعُهُ لَومٌ وَتَفنيدُ

5. Your rejection has burned me, while in love
The doors of my consolation are closed

٥. حَرَّقَني عَذلُكَ في شادِنٍ
بابُ سُلُوّي عَنهُ مَسدودُ

6. An untamed camel takes away my reins
Its forelocks knotted like the plaited ropes

٦. أَغيَدَ يَقتادُ زِمامي لَهُ
قَدٌّ كَخوطِ البانِ مَقدودُ

7. Your love has whitened my heart
With black braids of your hair

٧. قَد بَيَّضَت قَلبي مِن حُبِّهِ
غَدائِرٌ مِن شَعرِهِ سودُ

8. And of the wonders of love is that it
Seeks to kill me though itself lives

٨. وَمِن أَعاجيبِ الهَوى أَنَّهُ
يَطلُبُ قَتلي وَهوَ مَودودُ

9. And a night when my companion was with me
And my glances chained to the stars

٩. وَلَيلَةٍ باتَ سَميري بِها
وَناظِري بِالنَجمِ مَعقودُ

10. Your glances made me drink cups
That even grapes could not yield

١٠. يُديرُ لي مِن لَحظِهِ أَكؤُساً
ما نَتَجَتهُنَّ العَناقيدُ

11. Until the darkness cleared, and the drink
Of grapes ripened on the vine glowed

١١. حَتّى اِنجَلى صِبغُ الدُجى وَاِغتَدَت
كَأسُ الثُرَيّا وَهيَ عُنقودُ

12. And the groves roared for it
On the branches of the grove birds chirped

١٢. وَناحَ في البانِ هَتوفٌ لَهُ
عَلى فُروعِ البانِ تَغريدُ

13. It was stirred by no longing, nor did
Any feast of neighbors return its memory

١٣. ما هاجَهُ شَوقٌ وَلا عادَهُ
مِن ذِكرِ جيرانِ الغَضا عيدُ

14. He cried but knew no tears, while in
My cheek tears had carved a channel

١٤. بَكى وَلَم يَدرِ دُموعاً وَفي
خَدّي مِنَ الدَمعَةِ أُخدودُ

15. He feels no passion like mine, nor is his
Heart immersed in love like mine

١٥. لا وَجدُهُ وَجدي وَلا قَلبُهُ
مِثلي بِالأَشواقِ مَعمودُ

16. I complained of passion, while he is
Singing playfully and cheerfully

١٦. هَبهُ إَدَّعى الوَجدَ فَما بالُهُ
يَندُبُ إِلفا وَهوَ غِرّيدُ

17. By God, the promise of union, if only
It lasted and the days of love were festivals

١٧. لِلَّهِ عَهدُ الوَصلِ لَو أَنَّهُ
دامَ وَأَيّامُ الهَوى العيدُ

18. Alas no, the promise of the boy does not hold
And days of union are not returned

١٨. هَيهاتَ لا عَهدُ الصِبى راجِعٌ
وَلا زَمانُ الوَصلِ مَردودُ

19. My lifetime plots against me while the free
Man is the plotter

١٩. حَتّامَ دَهري بِتَصاريفِهِ
يَقصِدُني وَالحُرُّ مَقصودُ

20. His gift is bountiful, so why is he
Measured and limited towards me?

٢٠. عَطاؤُهُ جَمٌّ فَما بالُهُ
عِندي تَقليلٌ وَتَصريدُ

21. As if he swore no man of merit
Would be seen honored amongst people

٢١. كَأَنَّهُ أَقسَمَ أَن لا يُرى
ذو أَدَب في الناسِ مَجدودُ

22. I do not see the days as condemned
When Joseph the Sultan is praised

٢٢. وَلا أَرى الأَيّامَ مَذمومَةً
وَيوسُفُ السُلطانُ مَحمودُ

23. The just king in his rule
He is counted among the angels

٢٣. المَلِكُ العادِلُ في حُكمِهِ
فَهوَ مِنَ الأَملاكِ مَعدودُ

24. Why should we fear the injustice of our time
In his era when injustice is absent?

٢٤. وَكيفَ نَخشى جَورَ أَيّامِنا
في عَصرِهِ وَالجَورُ مَفقودُ

25. What grieves my hopes of injustice
When his abundant sea is filled?

٢٥. وَما لِآمالي تَشكو الظَما
وَبَحرُهُ الزاخِرُ مَورودُ

26. In His land God's shade emerged
It extends over the horizons

٢٦. أَصبَحَ ظِلَّ اللَهِ في أَرضِهِ
فَهوَ عَلى الأَفاقِ مَمدودُ

27. The sword of the Commander of the Faithful whose
Banner is tied with victory

٢٧. سَيفُ أَميرَ المُؤمِنينَ الَّذي
لِواؤُهُ بِالنَصرِ مَعقودُ

28. He owns the world so in his hand
Is the succession, delegated to him

٢٨. مَلَّكَهُ الدُنيا فَفي كَفِّهِ
نِيابَةً عَنهُ المَقاليدُ

29. A delegation during his comfort which
Is a covenant from God and ordainment

٢٩. نِيابَةً في راحَتَيهِ بِها
عَهدٌ مِنَ اللَهِ وَتَقليدُ

30. His actions nearly worshipped could be
If there was a worshipped one in the world

٣٠. تَكادُ أَن تُعبَدَ أَفعالُهُ
لَو كانَ في العالَمِ مَعبودُ

31. None aspire to his rank, so apart
From him none are envied amongst men

٣١. عَدلٌ وَجودٌ وَكَذا المُلكُ لا
يُنميهِ إِلّا العَدلُ وَالجودُ

32. His abode is vast for visitors
If he travels, the deserts confine him

٣٢. لَهُ مِنَ اللَهِ إِذا ما اِرتَأى
وَقالَ تَوفيقٌ وَتَسديدُ

33. His neighbor in residences is peaceful
And well-mannered towards his neighbor

٣٣. تُملي عَلَيهِ الغَيبَ أَفكارُهُ
فَكُلُّها وَحيٌ وَتَأيِيدُ

34. If his palm touched the lute
It would bloom in his comfort

٣٤. لا تَتَرَقّى نَحوَهُ هِمَّةٌ
فَغيرُهُ في الناسِ مَحسودُ

35. When dawn clears the killer nights
With its shooting star, Arcturus

٣٥. مَنزِلُهُ رَحبٌ لِزُوّارِهِ
فَإِن سَرى ضاقَت بِهِ البيدُ

36. His shade in peace is soft
And his rock in war firm

٣٦. وَالجارُ في أَبياتِهِ وادِعٌ
وَهوَ بِرَعيِ الجارِ مَكدودُ

37. He follows what his ancestors
Established, the praised Homs knights

٣٧. لَو لَمَسَ العودَ نَدى كَفِّهِ
أَورَقَ في راحَتِهِ العودُ

38. They carry spears in battles
For him the black lions of the forests

٣٨. القاتِلُ المَحلَ إِذا صَرَّحَت
بِجَدبِها شَهباءُ جارودُ

39. Intercede for him to the gazelles
Not to the cheeks of the white virgins

٣٩. زُلالُه في السِلمِ رَقراقَةٌ
وَصَخرُهُ في الحَربِ جُلمودُ

40. His weapon for fear is the sword
Brown blades and mighty heroes

٤٠. يَتبَعُ ما اِستَنَّ لَهُ في النَدى
آباؤُهُ الحُمسُ الصَناديدُ

41. The textures of weaving ordained
By David in ordering

٤١. تَحمِلُ آجامَ القَنا في الوَغى
لَهُ أُسودُ الغابَةِ السودُ

42. The edges of sharpening clearly arranged
While their relatives are bursting flames

٤٢. يَشفَعُهُ في صَفَحاتِ الظُبا
لا في خُدودِ البيضِ تَوريدُ

43. When their doom approached them
The headbands of the Turks, the thunderers

٤٣. عَتادُهُ لِلرُعبِ عَسّالَةٌ
سُمرٌ وَأَبطالٌ مَذاويدُ

44. All of them retreated humiliated
While dogs are shunned

٤٤. وَمُحكَماتُ النَسجِ مَوضونَةٌ
قَدَّرَها في السَردِ داوُودُ

45. So their torn corpses in the morning
Feed the eagles and hunters

٤٥. وَمُرهَفاتُ الحَدِّ مَطرورَةٌ
وَضُمَّرٌ أَقرابُها قودُ

46. Their armies defeated by fear
And their crops harvested by the sword

٤٦. لَمّا سَرَت يَقدِمُها حَتفُها
عَصائِبُ التُركِ الرَعاديدُ

47. The jihad of one whose day
Was never devoid of the struggle for God’s religion

٤٧. وَلّى عَلى أَعقابِها كُلُّها
طَريدَةً وَالكَلبُ مَطرودُ

48. And whom the centuries left of them
In prison, shackled and chained

٤٨. فَأَصبَحَت بِالدَوِّ أَشلاؤُهُم
يَشبَعُ مِنها النَسرُ وَالسيدُ

49. So receive tidings of imminent victory, its day
Witnessed in the enemies

٤٩. جُيوشُهُم بِالرُعبِ مَفلولَةٌ
وَزَرعُهُم بِالسَيفِ مَحصودُ

50. And listen, Virgin of the Supreme House
To the like of it glory is immersed

٥٠. جِهادَ مَن لَم يَبقَ يَوماً لَهُ
في نَصرِ دينِ اللَهِ مَجهودُ

51. Gifts perish, but for its eulogized one
Reconstruction and eternity amongst people

٥١. وَمَن تَبَقّاهُ الرَدى مِنهُم
في الأَسرِ مَكبوكٌ وَمَصفودُ

52. It makes the clothes of nights, and in
Reminding of it, renewal

٥٢. فَاِبشِر بِنَصرٍ عاجِلٍ يَومُهُ
بِالنَصرِ في الأَعداءِ مَشهودُ

53. Like aloes, a taste in the flavor of foes
And honey in the mouths of nobles

٥٣. وَاِنصِت لَها عَذراءَ بَيتُ العُلى
بِمِثلِها وَالفَخرِ مَعمودُ

54. It was not contaminated by asking, nor
Did greed or hesitation create it

٥٤. تَفنى العَطايا وَلِمَمدوحِها
في الناسِ تَعميرٌ وَتَخليدُ

55. The two learned are pleased with reciting it
And in you is some of the words of God’s oneness

٥٥. يُخلِقُ أَثوابَ اللَيالي وَفي
بَقائِها لِلذِكرِ تَجديدُ

56. Stallions, which were not cheapened
Nor worn out like an overused camel

٥٦. كَالصابِ طَعماً في مَذاقِ العِدى
وَفي فَمِ العَلياءِ قَنديدُ

57. If fortune missed me, it did not miss
Favor and excellence from them

٥٧. لَم تَتَدَنَّس بِسُؤالٍ وَلا
أَخلَقَها كَرُّ وَتَرديدُ

58. I recited it in you, to the glorious one
Through the like of it, lineages are transmitted

٥٨. تَرضى الحَفيظانِ بِإِنشادِها
وَفيكَ بَعضُ القَولِ تَوحيدُ

59. A young man whom goodness became innate
And benevolence inborn in man

٥٩. عَقائِلٌ مِنها الحَصانُ الَّتي
لَم تُبتَذَل وَالكاعِبُ الرودُ

60. Your prosperity appears on his face
While the fortunate man is fortunate

٦٠. إِن فاتَني الحَظُّ فَما فاتَني
فيهِنَّ إِحسانٌ وَتَجويدُ

61. Though from him I learned tenacity
No wood hardened in the non-Arabs like his

٦١. أَنشَدتُها فيكَ إِلى ماجِدٍ
عَن مِثلِهِ تُروى الأَسانيدُ

62. He took up the matter learned, and indeed
The mighty champions took it up

٦٢. فَتىً غَدا الإِحسانُ طَبعاً لَهُ
وَالخَيرُ في الإِنسانِ مَولودُ

63. He has loyalty planted from early on
By your fathers, O hunters

٦٣. يَلوحُ إِقبالُكَ في وَجهِهِ
وَالرَجُلُ المَسعودُ مَسعودُ

64. His feet were created loving you
He has manners and traits

٦٤. عَجَمتُ مِن آرائِهِ صُلَّباً
ما خارَ في العَجَمِ لَهُ عودُ

65. The kingdom has in their management a pillar
Sufficient, and for the state, foundation

٦٥. فَقامَ بِالأَمرِ ضَليعاً وَقَد
قامَت بِهِ البُزلُ الجَلاعيدُ

٦٦. لَهُ وَلاءٌ غَرَسَتهُ لَدى
آبائِهِ آباؤُكَ الصيدُ

٦٧. قَد جُبِلَت قِدَماً عَلى حُبِّكُم
لَهُ طِباعٌ وَمَواليدُ

٦٨. لِلمُلكِ مِن تَدبيرِهِم عَضُدٌ
كافٍ وَلِلدَولَةِ تَمهيدُ
