1. Unveil your reproach from the fault-finding censurer,
So my excuse in you stands against my blamers.

2. And sheathe your sword for my patience is now complete,
And restrain your arrows for my warriors have fallen.

3. Do not join yearning that delights and separation
That kills, for separation alone suffices to kill me.

4. What you ignite in my soul is enough
For your love is the fire of my agony and turmoil.

5. I swear I am not inclined to any other love but yours,
Nor am I gentle to any reproacher but you.

6. I remained heedlessly enchanted by your beauty though
I was busy with my sadness that preoccupied me.

7. So show kindness to my worn-out body and emaciated frame
Just as you showed kindness when visiting the abandoned campsites.

8. Woe to me for a waist that your tresses hold
Embracing me, and shoulders that carry my love.

9. By my furious soul that is not pleased except by
Shedding my blood though there is no use in doing so.

10. The arrows of your eyelids pierce my heart yet they
Did not miss though the archer’s right hand faltered.

11. Your cheek sways like a twig to your lover,
Taking the place of the laborer from it.

12. I embraced him tearfully while his mouth smiled
Like lightning that flashed in pouring clouds.

13. So I am gentle in complaining to one whose heart is harsh
And profuse in describing passionate love that mocks me.

14. If only his manners would dry up and follow
The manners of the excellent and just judge.

15. A king who protects his neighbor from calamities
And makes hopeful the prayers of the hopeful.

16. His fingers were created to throttle every transgressor,
Calumniator, and compulsive drinker of wine.

17. How many valiant lion attacks has he repelled
On the day of battle from the flanks of mighty warriors?

18. Thus he attains what frustrated even the eloquent
With his judicious counsel and devices.

19. And with his silence since youth enshrouded him
The sapling flourished while the full-grown tree withered.

20. To absorb generosity and valor in his essence,
Vanquishing every obstinate and mighty hero.

21. Ask about the positions of his battalions during the war,
His writings will inform you and his epistles.

22. Like sorcery, his schemes infiltrate hearts
Inescapably as if they came from Babylon.

23. The glance of your eyes draws exquisite subtleties
From the blossoms of gardens and the light of pleasure houses.

24. When your left cheek journeys drunk, it passes
With mannerisms that belong to it and its attributes.

25. From a group who rose while generosity had saddled
Obligatory and voluntary kindnesses that were neglected.

26. All with bright faces, smiling to those near
With hands white like mirrors and smooth as skin.

27. They built the heights with knowledge and gnosis
And cast the enemies with sharp swords and spears.

28. When seated they are the hearts of the gatherings,
And when mounted they are the essence of the caravans.

29. A lineage as clear as the morning proclaimed
Among successive honorable and reciprocal ancestors.

30. The far-off outcast drew near and the leaning straight
Through the beautiful wisdom of my father Ali.

31. O you who seeks good and exhausts himself
Crossing through terrifying tribulations and stages.

32. Smell the clouds of Abdul Rahim, his rain is a harbinger,
And receive good news of his clouds and rain.

33. O bestower of favors and best of those
Whose ropes the hopeful clung to.

34. How many hands you helped then pursued
On the day of giving with more gifts.

35. With hands white, confessing to their Lord
How heavy what they carried of burdens and loads.

36. Seek the unsullied virgins of praise as brides
Whose beauty endless time did not diminish.

37. I presented them to you as noble guests
And made them the means to reach you.

38. So sit with them, lift your veil before them
And listen to their recital and progression.

39. Recognize their subtle metaphors, O you who sees
Favor to the hopeful as the right of the hopeful.

40. They came to you with no degraded meaning
And their attire is unsullied by praising the lowly.

41. I have always kept them from situations
That reward the generous and guarded them from the ignorant.

42. And elevated them above praising the miserly
For non-existence is better than a miser’s gift.

43. Never shall someone hinder me,
And my resolve is unshaken by one who abandons me.

44. And even if I called upon you from a vast domain
With towering aspirations reaching to the distant horizon.

45. The clouds are too far to be attained
While a downpour is near to the reaching hand.

46. So when my poems containing praise are presented,
Raise my praises to the King, most merciful and just.

47. Intercede with your status between my fortune and riches
And obtain for me the days of my lingering lifetime.

48. Advocate for them since people refrained
Whether from laziness or negligence.

49. If you were the noblest house at which they lodged
Then the finest guest would praise you.

50. When I called for your support I was not heedless
Of me nor sought help from one who lets me down.

51. The land of Iraq became fertile but I
Will return from it barren and fruitless.

52. Its springs flowed abundant while my spring
Consists of scattered occurrences and tribulations.

53. Suffering in its people from diminished fortune
While perfect merit prevails.

54. But when it saw your abundant favors spread wide,
Judge in favor of its owner with forgotten merits.

55. So when I attempted to rise and thereby elevate
My status and spread news of my merits in the land,

56. Time stood to generously provide without reaching it
Due to obstacles of its circumstances and preoccupations.

57. Perhaps it feared your power when it saw
The goodness of your attention to strike my burdens.
