1. I praised you, O son of Nasr, with praise
The likes of which you did not hope for or expect

2. And I opened a door of affection for you
If only it remained closed and locked between us

3. And I strung for you necklaces of praise
With which kings adorn themselves proudly

4. And I removed from my bosom a beloved for you
That my hands were once miserly and stingy with

5. And I was content with Harran as her home, though
She yearned but could not reach it, however far she traveled

6. And I hoped your noble qualities would be kind to me, but
Neither has iron become soft nor steel flexible

7. To you came a beauty of glorious stock
The like of which no guide would be ashamed

8. Yet you cast her from your care though she
Defends the honor of the noble and will not be turned away

9. And you were heedless of her, turning away
While behind her I had a father’s protectiveness that does not neglect

10. You spurned her with disdain though never
Have the poets been spurned in a forthcoming day

11. She became neglected by you, with few
Supporters, not knowing to whom she should plead

12. Return my rejected praises to me
For separation from one unworthy is best

13. I will redirect them to one more splendid
Who will welcome them and me affectionately

14. By the divorce of captivity, Basim’s name
Gives his hand though his face still shines

15. And I will alight despite you by the order
Of the two encampments, and what an excellent place to alight!
