1. The abode of love lies between al-Liwa and al-Sharaf
Of a square, stronger, and in al-Mustaf

2. Rain has poured on your ashes from tears
Singing your praises, making you forget good company

3. My body is worn out as are your ruins after them
Wretched and my patience is like your solid corner

4. I knew you in youth as a dear friend
Whose affection gathered people before they dispersed

5. Stop, O Saad, amongst their ruins
If you prefer kindness and help in love

6. And honor a place whose splendor has diminished
Lest its glory be trampled by slippers

7. And heal the heartsick from standing at a house
Whose memory in the heart is like a fresh wound

8. And call to a heart I have misled in al-Liwa
Amongst intertwined branches and sand dunes

9. By God, I had a pact of love and days of youth
I left it and its pleasures dissipated

10. Days that do not disobey me in love
Nor intend goodness to oppose me

11. Since no injustice makes me happy with injustice
Nor does the withholder tend towards fairness

12. I strut in the loose robes of youth
Wandering in their ample folds

13. Flirting with the beloved of perfect beauty
Heroic in glance, soft in sides

14. The lover's complaint to him of the heaviness of love
Is a complaint of presence though absent

15. He whose nature is hard does not soften his heart
To stay enamored nor to implore

16. Awe of the Caliph has been cast over us
Mixing poison in the honey of love

17. We fear him in private lest we express discontent
And dread him at night, time of covering

18. His rule has filled hearts with reverence
Casting tranquility upon limbs

19. Ruler of God's land and protector of Islam
Its lasting shadow and abundant rain

20. The lofty glory whose hills he heightened
And torrent of justice and fairness

21. Thunderous in his defense and sweetly flowing his gifts
Clear, sparkling, and fresh

22. Most loyal at night and gentlest natured
Unlike the harsh and withholding times

23. He revived the sprouts of favors, so they bore fruit
After withering, flowering for harvest

24. Today the meadow of virtue is not well-kept
With his call, and hopes are not bare

25. He cast at the enemy a fiery meteor
Like the spark of the hissing, rumbling clouds

26. Foremost in every competition, repeating advance
Upon its peaks, kind and endearing

27. Necks, when called to war, arise
Tall, carrying long swords

28. With cheeks like mirrors and bodies like poles
Slim, towering, high-climbing

29. Brandishing well-whetted, thirsty spears
From the shoulders of heroes, soft-limbed

30. Taking positions in the empty wilderness, hump-backed
Narrow-waisted, towering, lofty

31. Like stallions over them are stallions
Prancing lightly, borne on the light

32. Determined spirits awe-inspiring in resolve
Good fortune in Caliphate, enough.

33. Perfect in bounty, his sea not riled
By frequent requests or pestering pleas

34. Godlike in giving, gifts not counted
Though extravagance multiplies

35. Shining from his face emerges a light
Like sparks from granite glancing off

36. The enemies never hope to extinguish it
God's light never goes out

37. From his generosity rain poured until it leveled
Every land, high and low

38. In each art of benevolence
There is a trace of kindness, clearly preserved

39. Travel wherever in the land, and you
Were hosted, counted amongst his guests

40. A nature too pure to be marred in praise
Sublime traits, beyond descriptions

41. Noble characters like the stars in their glory
Of transparent, polished essence

42. And prophetic achievements that won over
Ancestors and predecessors

43. The Prophet's family, his helpers, his people
And heirs, without contention

44. Ships of salvation, the firmest handhold, beloved
Of lasting, plentiful goodness

45. Veiled from sights in glory
Like hidden pearls within oyster shells

46. They repay good with beautiful goodness, the mark
Of noble souls and finest manners

47. They brought down the kingdom of Tubba
And took from Saabor his broad kingdom

48. When called upon in adversity
They give from the poor's money, yet it is theirs

49. Lowly dust covers them and their dwellings
Are verdant, shaded places

50. They raised for us the fire of guidance and disdained
To boast of fuel and flames

51. Their pages were illuminated by them
As scrolls and records

52. Follow them and journey comfortably, at rest
From crossing horrors and traversing wilds

53. They are the most generous household inhabited
By delegations, the best of all tribes

54. The radiant Imam erected for them
A glory appended to past glory

55. Noblest in lineage, above the stars their nobility
Sons of Abd Manaf risen high

56. O you whose praise words fall short of
Though eloquent describers strain to capture it

57. It is stated in God's signs, but how can we reach it
Through artful poems and ode?

58. O you who revive and visit regularly
With constant kindness and compassion

59. You healed our world though it grew ill
For you are the curing physician

60. You lightened afflictions and your capacity
Has clothed the days - such capacity!

61. Disappointed hopes and absent rains
Do not harm us with your clouds full of bounty

62. So bring them early as a holiday gift
Not distant from birth or marriage

63. Secure in your protection, raised above
Greed and draining demands

64. Rural yet urbane you were generous when her lineage
Was attributed, far from dishonor

65. You dispatched her traveling the lands in caravans
Loading and unloading in both directions

66. You made it a refuge for you and talismans
And for those who oppose, pelted by hurling rocks

67. Jewels exchanged by kings, though she
Spurns indignity by my probity and chastity

68. But she serves you and before the Commander
Of the Faithful, defers to my judgment

69. So renew the extended life in a state
Whose days are like a well-watered garden

70. Let there be holiday in your survival, a feast
That makes thousands happy

71. Early, well-protected, elevated by your aid
Above covetous hands and plunder

72. My poetry pales in your description though I strain
To portray you, O finest traits!
