1. O sons of long-lived forebears, for time
You have sins that will not be forgiven
١. لِلدَهرِ يا أَبناءَ مَعمَرٍ
لَكُم ذُنوبٌ لَيسَ تُغفَر
2. He gave you bountifully, generously
Yet withholding would have better suited you
٢. أَعطاكُمُ الجَمَّ الجَزي
لَ وَكُنتُمُ بِالمَنعِ أَجدَر
3. You took the world, so it cheated you
And you took from the pilgrims their wages
٣. وَوَليتُمُ الدُنيا فَأُل
فيتُم مِنَ الحَجّاجِ أَجوَر
4. In every region among you
Is an unjust ruler who has grown old
٤. في كُلِّ صُقعٍ مِنكُمُ
وَالٍ ظَلومٌ قَد تَعَمَّر
5. Arrogant, frightened only
By his pride, not his Lord the Great
٥. مُتَجَبِّراً ما خَوَّفو
هُ بِرَبِّهِ إِلّا تَجَبَّر
6. Ill-natured as an angry lion
When it is enraged and growls
٦. مُتَنَمِّرَ الأَخلاقِ كَال
لَيثِ الغَضوبِ إِذا تَنَمَّر
7. Many defectors has he humiliated
With his power, so I will excuse him
٧. وَلَقَد أَذالَ بِصَرفِهِ
مِن عُصبَةٍ مِنكُم فَأَعذَر
8. For they will be overtaken by fate
Who lagged behind the tribulations
٨. فَسَيَلحَقَنَّ بِمَن تَقد
دَمَ النَوائِبِ مَن تَأَخَّر
9. You tyrannize the weak
With arrogance, though God is greater
٩. تِهتُم عَلى المُستَضعَفي
نَ تَكَبُّراً وَاللَهُ أَكبَر
10. And when empowered
You raged, though God is more powerful
١٠. وَغَدَوتُمُ ذا قُدرَةٍ
فَفَتَكتُمُ وَاللَهُ أَقدَر
11. You have dubious records
For which you will be judged when spread
١١. لَكُمُ صَحائِفُ ريبَةٍ
تُجزَونَ فيها يَومَ تُنشَر
12. Ugly traces of you remain
Reported and influencing
١٢. وَقَبيحُ آثارٍ عَلى
أَعقابِكُم تُروى وَتُؤثَر
13. A people whose neighbor is wronged
In their homes, pacts broken
١٣. قَومٌ يُضامُ الجارُ في
أَبياتِهِم وَالعَهدُ يُخفَر
14. Known for black ingratitude
To God's favors they are unthankful
١٤. عُرِفوا بِكُفرانِ الصَني
عِ وَهُم لِصُنعِ اللَهِ أَكفَر
15. And breaking covenants they love
So perfidy makes them vilest
١٥. وَاِستَحسَنوا نَقضَ العُهودِ فَهُ
م مِنَ الأَيّامِ أَغدَر
