8. If his beauties have been folded from us,

are consolation for him and patience.

10. Events have begrudged me him
- Time grants not his like again.

11. The dusty tombs are lively with his beauty
while our homes are desolate.

12. O builder of lofty edifices, home again
as fuel for death - your sapling withered!

13. O crescent moon of a horizon, your rising
eclipsed - you waned ere your tenth night.

14. O you who, absent, desolated me, though kith
and kin are many! No shame in my anguish over you,

15. Nor in my patience since you left excuse.
If solitude meets you on the desert plain,

16. to fate go the stony yards, and yours the grave.
For you my gaze is kohl whose seer's eyes smart,

17. my heart is stuffing, and sorrow the husk.

The boughs forgot bending in the breeze,
