1. Had your heart been in love,
You would have lamented my torment of passion.
2. But you were harsh, so you didn't grieve for one,
With yearning, nor were you gentle with a lover.
3. O you, whom I keep reaching out to,
While troubled, and you abandon me without fault,
4. Kindling the embers of longing in my liver,
And preventing me from sipping its sweet water.
5. Be however you wish, for I do not incline
To blaming, nor do I listen to reproach.
6. Alas! How could I hope for joy,
When passion has seized the entirety of my heart?
7. Or that I attain, in distance, the pleasure
Of one who was angered by me in closeness?
