And the farmer's caller summons

Of meadows in their breaths

3. The leaves and eloquent buds sing
So relieve my anguish with a cup

4. And soothe me with the passing breeze
From a rose whose youth and beauty

5. Has mounted its knight to frolic and jest
From a white palm whose extract

6. Intoxicates me when blended with wine
Attracting then the rapt gazes

7. When her glances seduced the market of salt
I doubt the love of one whose eyes

8. Complain of my oppression, though unjustified
An oppressor who takes from me by force

9. My devotion, though its beauty refuses but to dazzle
I have no fault in hiding it

10. Nor in its corruption or redemption
None recovers from the drunkenness of love

11. But by the sobering of my heart
I have not lived for pleasure

12. My rising and resting
Bound to obey love

13. By disobeying tradition's tablets
You will not see me restless

14. Save for the rustling of my cloak
And my praise for my superior father

15. The generous, well-mannered
He atones for my violations

16. No palm was created but for benevolence
A comforter whose generosity brings triumph

17. Modest, refusing tyranny or insolence
His cheerful face humbles the dawn

18. And his smile reassures the needy
Like the blossoming meadow's smile

19. Radiating without the meadow's brilliance
Balanced in his nobility that blends

20. Fierceness with benevolence
Like wine aged to mellowness with pure water

21. From a pearl that nursed greatness
Succeeding like columns of spears

22. Excelling in days of peace and struggle
Surpassing people with hands that humble the clouds

23. And faces like lamps in shrines, dawning
How much glory his faith has gathered

24. Glory gained and bestowed
He carried on the heritage of nobility

25. With effort and innovation
Bringing us near, realizing hopes

26. That verses will repel
And block the ways, the brigands

27. Rising above the grasp of greedy hands
O defender, defending the land's frontier

28. With steely lances
And smooth white swords

29. Why do you not defend your sovereign's domain
That is ravaged without restraint?

30. Prepare the choice camels, their beauty
Surpassing the excellent mares

31. With sturdy Arabian poems, eloquent
Untamed, unmilked

32. Racing in your arena, stretching out
Their necks with the winds

33. Never obeying a suitor
In the contract of marriage

34. Release her from you gently
With good tidings and openness

35. And perhaps God will destine her
To suffer the fate of dishonor

36. Your favor lends my praise meaning
More useful to me than life's comforts

37. O generously give what I have requested
Of you, though time does not oblige

38. Do not leave me to the days
That peck my wings relentlessly

39. Amid events that conspire against me
Marching from all directions

40. To fight me, as wounds spew
So you are today my only

41. Refuge from every attackers' blow
And leave me that which rushed on

42. In profuse greetings and joy at dawn
