1. Perhaps you are on the banks of the holy valley,
Where ambergris fragrance is not what I tread,

2. Yet I sense their perfume in seeing you,
And the passion of love arises in my heart.

3. Their fires and beacons guide me,
Urging me on, while the stars circle above.

4. Thus my feet did not falter or stumble,
Nor my saddle cry out as it slowly sauntered.

5. Did it share my fervor or is it heading
To the valley, drawn by my burning passion?

6. Patience! This is Lubnay valley and it is
My meadow of lilacs, though I am thirsty.

7. Blessed are the dwellings of Lubnay’s people!
Blessed is the land where Lubnay’s feet tread!

8. Arenas of my reveries and stage of my watcher,
With endless goals and beginnings for my longing.

9. Think not the singing girls are restrained,
Rather they are hearts concealed in bosoms.

10. In the green goblet overflows pride
Adorned by the blue of the lofty heavens.

11. The rule of Suleiman has erased the beauty of his era,
For each one professes the faith of youthful folly.

12. He wished for the span of her bracelets, glimpsing
As her eye coyly glanced his way.

13. On the cheeks a shining whiteness
Threaded by the red of beauty.

14. An angelic glance, pious of passion,
Yet your eye’s glance went astray.

15. The people of passion are wounded, but their blood
Is tears of the lovesick and wounds that heal.

16. How can I mend your glances’ rending of my cloak,
When there is none to sew the shredded fabric?

17. From whence do I hope to cure my soul of passion,
When not every sick one is healed of their illness?

18. Why should I not aspire and dream,
When a noble soul and pure intentions suffice?

19. Neither principles held me back from heights,
Nor beginnings kept me from noble ends.

20. But time is fickle in its ways,
The virtuous cast down, the undeserving exalted.

21. As if my time upon seeing me in its grasp,
Made me its foe, always opposing me.

22. So I turned away, shunning reproach,
Yet circling around brought me no benefit.

23. I cast off the burdens of time and its people,
For I am occupied only with truths.

24. I kept to the way of silence, not out of sullenness,
For I have speech for hearing and a heart filled up.

25. Were it not for the protection of King Muhammed ibn Ma'n,
The union of pearls would have come undone.

26. Pearls, if not for my plunging thoughts,
Feeble knowledge, and speech that falls short.

27. He surpassed the bounds of imagination, sight, and death,
His brilliant pearls eternally glimmering.

28. The helpers follow him in defeat,
While the sights turn away as he triumphs.

29. Without him, my fortunes would be like rainless clouds,
And my thoughts like the new moon in Muharram.

30. He is love, which I professed only for his glory,
Though one like me conceals in the bosom of chastity.

31. His supremacy is like the Umayyad state,
With no outstanding sermon of Umeir or competitor.

32. If your wrath should strike the disobedient,
The hands of discord will soon be joined.

33. They disobeyed, seeking help from a traitor,
While the betrayer betrayed, with none finding refuge.

34. The meteors of the bow flare, while the star shines,
As the hands of the noble ladies are downcast.

35. It teaches the reddening of the swords, and if it sees
The redness of blood, then the blood is innocent.
