1. I implored you not to turn away from affection
And from a state of righteousness to corruption

2. If you could see what you mean to my conscience
If you could witness what you mean to my heart

3. Then you would know that you are who makes it whole
And without you it remains desolate

4. So none has counseled you in affection
Or made effort so you remain devout

5. Save the kindness and rapport between us
My Lord, you have my conviction

6. And if with that you sought increase
You would not gleam with brilliance upon increase

7. I did not know you to seek the sublime
And earn praise but as a noble steed

8. He who is accustomed to generosity and grace
Gives freely without hesitation

9. And is soon to bestow what he withholds
And grant respite despite adversity

10. Your promise in life has my consent
Not what I desire on the day we cry out

11. So many favors I have linked with gratitude
Like thanking a garden, source of the valleys

12. And many are the kind acts I owe you, Muhammad
That remain with me, and the fine courtesy and care
