1. Leave, O Mu'awiya, what will never be,
For God has realized what you fear.

2. Ali has come upon you with the people of Hejaz
And Iraq, so what will you do?

3. On every well-rounded, white-faced maiden,
And slender, delicate body, eyes delight.

4. Over them are horsemen fearsome as lions,
Ferocious lions defending their dens.

5. They see the piercing through the rushes
And the striking of the horsemen in the fight as loans.

6. They routed the army, the hosts of Zubayr
And Talha and the oath-breaking band.

7. They swore an oath at Halqa
To lead against Syria a humiliating war,

8. That turns gray the side-locks before their greying
And causes the pregnant to miscarry what they carry.

9. If you dislike the rule, the rule of Iraq,
Then these people have approved what you dislike.

10. Say to the misguided one from Wail
Who once made the froth into cream one day:

11. You made Ali and his adherents
The peers of Ibn Hind, have you no shame?

12. He is the foremost of men after the Messenger
And the in-law of the Messenger of all mankind

13. And the son-in-law of the Messenger, and who is like him
If there comes a day that turns generations gray?
