1. O people gathered in Mecca, are you people or scattered sand dunes?
Is Qais left secure in his home
١. ألاَ أيَّهَا النَّاسُ الَّذِينَ تَجَمَّعُوا
بِمَكَّا أنَاسٌ أنْتُمْ أمْ أباعِرُ
2. While we embark the tumultuous sea?
By God, though I ask, I know not
٢. أيُتْرَكُ قَيْسٌ آمِنينَ بِدَارِهِمْ
وَنُرْكَبُ ظَهْرَ الْبَحْرِ والْبَحْرُ زَاخِرُ
3. If Hamdan will defend their honor or abandon it
Or if the noblest descent of donkey boys
٣. فَوَاللهِ مَا أدْرِي وَإنِّي لَسَائِلٌ
أهَمْدَانُ تَحْمِي ضيْمَهَا أمْ يُحابِرُ
4. The sons of Malik will cease their hostilities
Did their father bequeath continuous alliance between them?
٤. أم الشَّرَفُ الأعلَى مِنْ أوْلاَدِ حِميَرِ
بَنُو مَالِكٍ أنْ تَسْتَمِرَّ المَرَائِرُ
5. While your father bequeathed separation amongst you
٥. أأوْصَى أبُوهُم بَيْنَهُمْ أن تَوَاصَلُوا
وَأوْصَى أبُوكُم بَيْنكُمْ أنْ تَدَابَرُوا
