By God, you are a serpent spewing poison

2. With little antidote to heal the afflicted
You are the sun, men but stars

3. Whose glow cannot be seen when you rise
You have protected Iraq with sharp swords

4. And with the white blades, like flashes of lightning
We came when you called us to Syria

5. Against the enemy, like free warriors
You ignited war in Syria with the white blades

6. And with the slender spears
We see only forearms and palms

7. And heads severed by the blows
Whenever I said the throngs had dwindled

8. You watered them with a deep bowl
You have fulfilled your duty to truth

9. And the executioners have accomplished it
Your great right remains over people

10. And the right of the King is hard to attain
You are sweet to those close in friendship

11. And bitter to those hostile in enmity
Wearing the crown of your grandfather and father

12. If only it could ward off the termination of life
Evil is what Ibn Hind assumed of you

13. And those like you, in people's eyes in times of distress
