1. I denied my eyes concerning you though the eyes speak truth,
And I made my ears deaf to you though they do hear,
١. وَكَذَّبْتُ طَرْفِي فِيكِ والطَّرْفُ صَادِقٌ
وَأسْمَعْتُ أُذْنِي عَنْكِ مَا لَيْسَ تَسْمَعُ
2. And I did not live in the land where you live,
Lest they say, "He is patient; he does not grieve."
٢. وَلَمْ اسْكُنِ الأرْضَ التِي تَسْكُنِينَهَا
لَئِلاَّ يَقُولُوا صَابِرٌ لَيْسَ يَجْزَعُ
3. So neither my firmness diminishes, nor have you tenderness,
Nor concerning you, indifference; nor in you, hope.
٣. فَلاَ كَمَدِي يَفْنَى وَلاَ لَكَ رِقَّةٌ
وَلاَ عَنْكِ إقْصَارٌ وَلاَ فِيكِ مَطْمَعُ
