1. And the extent of what I have gained from my debates
And from my contemplation after lengthy deliberation
١. وغَايَةُ ما حَصَّلْتُهُ منْ مَبَاحِثي
ومِنْ نَظَري مِنْ بَعْدِ طُولِ التَّدَبُّرِ
2. Is but to stop perplexed between the two paths
So what knowledge has one who found naught but confusion?
٢. هُوَ الْوَقْف ما بَيْن الطّريقَيْن حيرَةً
فما عِلْمُ مَنْ لَمْ يَلْقَ غَيْرَ التّحَيُّرِ
3. Yet verily I have plunged into its deep darkness
And my soul did not content itself save with diving in
٣. عَلَى أَنّني قَدْ خُضْتُ مِنْهُ غِمارَهُ
وما قَنَعَتْ نَفْسي بدُونِ التَّبَحُّرِ
