1. From you, O pride of the age and adornment of time
Comes a composition whose essence is unmatched pearls
١. أَتَى مِنْكَ يا فَخْرَ الأوانِ وزِينَةَ الزّ
مانِ نِظامٌ دُونَهُ الْجَوهَرُ الْفَرْدُ
2. It is pure gold, not prone to trials like twinkling stars
Rather it rose like the full moon, nay it is the sun when it rises
٢. هُوَ الدُّرُّ لا بَلء كالدَّرارِي بَلْ غَدا
كَبَدْرِ السَّما لا بَلْ هُوَ الشَّمْسُ إذْ تَبْدُو
3. What can one who is not Lord of fairness say?
And does it befit one to deny the like of this?
٣. ومَاذا عَسى مَنْ لَمْ يكُنْ رَبَّ نِصْفَةٍ
يَقُولُ وهَل في مِثْلِ ذَا يَحْسُنُ الْجَحْدُ
4. The sun at dawn remains radiant though bleary eyes cannot bear its light
What fault in the swelling sea if somewhere apes play?
٤. وهَلْ ضَرَّ شَمْسَ الأُفْقِ وَهْيَ مُنِيرَةٌ
إذا ضَعفَتْ عَنْ نُورِها الأَعْيُنُ الرُّمْدُ
5. What flaw of a fair-skinned beauty if she is shunned by one of blemish who lacks vigor?
He who says this sweet is bitter, say to him the bitterness is in you
٥. ومَاذا عَلَى الْبَحْرِ الْخِضَمِّ لَدَى الْوَرَى
إذا بَالَ في إحْدَى جَوَانِبِهِ الْقِرْدُ
6. If he says this sword does not cut, say its edge decides between us
The virtues of God's grace abound, so one who denies them in ignorance, his denial is invalid
٦. وَمَا عَيْبُ بَيْضاءِ التَّرائِب في الدُّنَا
إذا عَافَها ذُو عِنَّةٍ مالَهُ جَهْدُ
7. A noble youth has attained the path of glory and donned the garb of guidance, to which glory willingly accedes,
And his pillars in every lofty realm, despite his enemies, are his staunchest pillars.
٧. وَمَنْ قَالَ هذَا الشُّهْدُ مُرٌّ فَقُلْ لَهُ
مَرَارَةُ فِيكَ الْمُرِّمَرِّ بِها الشُّهْدُ
٨. وإنْ قَالَ هذَا السَّيْفُ لَيْسَ بقاطِعٍ
فَقُلْ حَدُّهُ ما بَيْنَنا الْفَصْلُ والْحَدُّ
٩. مناقِبُ لُطْفِ اللهِ جَلَّتْ فَمَنْ غَدَا
يُرَدِّدُها جَهْلاً بِها بَطَلَ الرَّدُّ
١٠. فَتىً قَدْ غَدا في مَدْرَجِ الْعِزِّ وارْتَدي
بِثَوْبِ الْهُدَى وانْقَادَ طَوْعاً لَهُ الْمَجْدُ
١١. وسُؤْدُدُهُ في كُلِّ بابٍ مِنَ الْعُلَى
بِرَغْمِ أَعاديه هُوَ الْسُؤْدُدُ الْعِدُّ
