1. The true answer in this for me, without doubt,
Is with the researcher, ask and trace.

2. If the statement of a modern scholar
Derives from the words of an early imam,

3. Through generality or analogous deduction -
It is part of what that early voice has said.

4. But if it is by fanciful analogy,
Guessing and comparing aimlessly,

5. It has no basis, a fiction for the fanciful.
Follow this, for it enriches the world,

6. Beyond the ideas of false claimants.
What the Qur’an contains, or the words

7. Of the best prophet and messengers,
Follow if you are wise, the words

8. Of the early imam, the first guide.
He is the model, the perfect example

9. Of truth in clear and unclear matters.
May our Lord reward him for us,

10. And for all of mankind, the highest place.
He cured and guided us with what came

11. To us clearly from him.
Why should we toil with the words of one

12. Like us in knowledge and practice?
He is charged as others are charged,

13. With clear and unclear matters.
The law applies to him as it does

14. To all those who imitate him.
You misguided by corrupt opinion,

15. Astray from the book sent down!
Becoming contrary to what was brought

16. By the best of messengers, in valid speech.
You are bound in the darkness of ignorance,

17. Confused in perplexing matters.
Dispel confusion and ignorance with what is

18. Sound from the guidance of the sent prophet.
The path of good is open to those who seek

19. To tread the best paths.
