1. O separation, how you have stirred the agony of the absent one,
And O estrangement, how you have troubled the purity of drink!

2. O fate, how you have made me drink the loss of a companion,
With a cup of sorrow after him - the loss of a companion!

3. To God I complain of what the hand of sorrow has done to my liver,
While fate is full of wonders.

4. I yearn for a reunion whose era has passed,
Though a person's yearning is the most trivial obligation.

5. I mourn the fate of reunion after separation,
And I weep for it with meteoric tears.

6. O abode of the meeting, life has bid you farewell
With continuous generosity, pouring dark wine.

7. In your life, is there any return from separation,
Returning to a lover whose heart is melting?

8. The anklets of estrangement have alighted upon it completely,
And separation has inclined toward it from every side.

9. It has become a comrade to longing and misery
For the separation from the beauty of the faith, the adornment of processions.

10. A knight whose place is above the celestial domes,
His canopy is strewn with stars.

11. He possesses every path of noble glory
And his births are from a generous lineage.

12. He walked joyfully in the splendor of might and put on
An edge of glory in the heart of positions.

13. He raced in the racing-ground and shortened
Before his gallop the sons of Lu'ayy ibn Ghalib.

14. O master who has ruled the world through his deeds
And stood by a quarter of glory without a watcher.

15. There has come to me from you an arrangement like pearls,
The arrangement of Hammaam or Sawwad ibn Qarib.

16. And in it, preoccupations which have bound me firmly,
While the occupation of a youth seduces to erase virtues.

17. The letting down of the veil's heavy rain from you is hoped for,
Over what you see in a fault full of blemishes.

18. Live on, O son of the best of messengers, in the shade of blessing
From God—truly, God is the most generous grantor—

19. And do not forget me during supplication, for I
Am most desirous of supplications from you.
