Bearing reward and punishment rain.

2. Badr is but grace and gifts,
And death, and pierce of lance, and strike of sword.

3. Naught allures the eyes but his praiseโ
Arms exerted themselves in his deeds, necks blamed him.

4. Not thereby he killed his foes, but
He fears breaking what wolves hope.

5. So he has the awe of the peerless one,

6. Piercer of horsemen through the pupilsโ
Clamor of war to the sun a mask.

7. Rouser of the soul to dreadful horrors
From which no soul that meets them returns.
