1. The reproaches of reproachers surround the heart of the wanderer,
And the passions of lovers emanate from its darkness.
١. عَذلُ العَواذِلِ حَولَ قَلبِ التائِهِ
وَهَوى الأَحِبَّةِ مِنهُ في سَودائِهِ
2. The blamer complains to the blamers of his burning,
And avoids when he is blamed for his joys.
٢. يَشكو المَلامُ إِلى اللَوائِمِ حَرَّهُ
وَيَصُدُّ حينَ يَلُمنَ عَن بُرَحائِهِ
3. By my delight, O my reproacher, the king whom
I angered all people to please him.
٣. وَبِمُهجَتي يا عاذِلي المَلِكُ الَّذي
أَسخَطتُ كُلَّ الناسِ في إِرضائِهِ
4. If he has ruled the hearts, he surely
Has ruled the time with its land and sky.
٤. إِن كانَ قَد مَلَكَ القُلوبَ فَإِنَّهُ
مَلَكَ الزَمانَ بِأَرضِهِ وَسَمائِهِ
5. The sun is jealous of him, and victory is
Among his peers, and the sword is among his names.
٥. الشَمسُ مِن حُسّادِهِ وَالنَصرُ مِن
قُرَنائِهِ وَالسَيفُ مِن أَسمائِهِ
6. Where are the three compared to his three traits
Of beauty, pride, and prosperity?
٦. أَينَ الثَلاثَةُ مِن ثَلاثِ خِلالِهِ
مِن حُسنِهِ وَإِبائِهِ وَمَضائِهِ
7. Eras have passed and none has come like him,
And when he came they fell short of equalling him.
٧. مَضَتِ الدُهورُ وَما أَتَينَ بِمِثلِهِ
وَلَقَد أَتى فَعَجَزنَ عَن نُظَرائِهِ
