1. After Abraham, except for constant yearning and sighing,
None who informed them doubted that grieving over them was forbidden.
١. أَلِئالِ إِبراهيمَ بَعدَ مُحَمَّدٍ
إِلّا حَنينٌ دائِمٌ وَزَفيرُ
2. Tears stain their cheeks, their nights dissolve into hours.
The sins of the sons of an uncle - all are forgivable
٢. ما شَكَّ خابِرُ أَمرِهِم مِن بَعدِهِ
أَنَّ العَزاءَ عَلَيهِمِ مَحظورُ
3. Except strife sowed among them.
Slanderers flew at the purity of their affection
٣. تُدمي خُدودَهُمُ الدُموعُ وَتَنقَضي
ساعاتُ لَيلِهِمِ وَهُنَّ دُهورُ
4. As flies alight on food.
Indeed I granted Abu al-Husayn such affection
٤. أَبناءُ عَمِّ كُلُّ ذَنبٍ لِاِمرِئٍ
إِلّا السِعايَةَ بَينَهُم مَغفورُ
5. I would bestow on his enemy in abundance.
A king imagined whatever he wished as though
٥. طارَ الوُشاةُ عَلى صَفاءِ وِدادِهِم
وَكَذا الذُبابُ عَلى الطَعامِ يَطيرُ
6. The decree he executes flows from destiny's judgment.
٦. وَلَقَد مَنَحتُ أَبا الحُسَينِ مَوَدَّةً
جودي بِها لِعَدُوِّهِ تَبذيرُ
٧. مَلِكٌ تَصَوَّرَ كَيفَ شاءَ كَأَنَّما
يَجري بِفَصلِ قَضائِهِ المَقدورُ
