1. A book has come to us, all people,
through the hand of its author, may all hands be sacrificed for it.
١. بِكُتبِ الأَنامِ كِتابٌ وَرَد
فَدَت يَدَ كاتِبِهِ كُلُّ يَد
2. It expresses what we have,
and recalls the longing we find.
٢. يُعَبِّرُ عَمّا لَهُ عِندَنا
وَيَذكُرُ مِن شَوقِهِ ما نَجِد
3. It tore apart the views of who saw it,
and dazzled whoever critiqued it.
٣. فَأَخرَقَ رائِيَهُ ما رَأى
وَأَبرَقَ ناقِدَهُ ما اِنتَقَد
4. When people heard its words,
they created envy for it in hearts.
٤. إِذا سَمِعَ الناسُ أَلفاظَهُ
خَلَقنَ لَهُ في القُلوبِ الحَسَد
5. So I said, as the eloquent examined it:
Thus does the lion, son of a lion, act.
٥. فَقُلتُ وَقَد فَرَسَ الناطِقينَ
كَذا يَفعَلُ الأَسَدُ اِبنُ الأَسَد
