I refused to accept it, refusing all
١. لَقَد نَسَبوا الخِيامَ إِلى عَلاءِ
أَبَيتُ قَبولَهُ كُلَّ الإِباءِ
2. And I did not bow above you to fortune
Nor did I bow above you to the sky
٢. وَما سَلَّمتُ فَوقَكَ لِلثُرَيّا
وَلا سَلَّمتُ فَوقَكَ لِلسَماءِ
3. You made the Levant land desolate until
You stripped its landscapes of the clothes of splendor
٣. وَقَد أَوحَشتَ أَرضَ الشامِ حَتّى
سَلَبتَ رُبوعَها ثَوبَ البَهاءِ
4. You breathe and the capitals smell of you, ten
So you recognize that scent in the air
٤. تَنَفَّسُ وَالعَواصِمُ مِنكَ عَشرٌ
فَتَعرِفُ طيبَ ذَلِكَ في الهَواءِ
