2. You remained in it, writhing with anguish,
Her hands boiling above its ashes.

3. O you who rouse her passion, I reckon
I will be found dead before I lose her.

4. Stop for a while with her, spare me
No less than a glance with which I am provided.

5. For in the heart of a lover is the fire of passionโ€•
Hotter than the fires of Hell, her coolness.

6. Separation has turned his once jet-black hair
To the white of an old goat from torment.

ููŽุตูŽุงุฑูŽ ู…ูุซู’ู„ูŽ ุงู„ุฏู‘ู…ูŽู‚ู’ุณู ุฃุณู’ูˆูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

7. O you who censure lovers, leave a groupโ€•
That God has led astrayโ€•how can you guide them?

ูง. ูŠูŽุง ุนูŽุงุฐูู„ูŽ ุงู„ุนูŽุงุดูู‚ููŠู†ูŽ ุฏูŽุนู’ ููุฆูŽุฉู‹
ุฃุถูŽู„ู‘ู‡ูŽุง ุงู„ู„ู‡ ูƒูŽูŠููŽ ุชูุฑู’ุดูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

8. Reproach does not suit proud souls,
The nearest of them to you, the furthest from you.

9. Miserable are the nights I stayed awake from rapture
Yearning for she who spends the night asleep.

ูฉ. ุจูุฆู’ุณูŽ ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŠูŽุงู„ูŠ ุณูŽู‡ูุฏู’ุชู ู…ูู†ู’ ุทูŽุฑูŽุจู
ุดูŽูˆู’ู‚ุงู‹ ุฅู„ู‰ ู…ูŽู†ู’ ูŠูŽุจููŠุชู ูŠูŽุฑู’ู‚ูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

10. I brought them to life, and tears help me,
Her affairs and darkness help her.

ูกู . ุฃุญู’ูŠูŽูŠู’ุชูู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽุงู„ุฏู‘ู…ููˆุนู ุชูู†ู’ุฌูุฏูู†ูŠ
ุดูุคูˆู†ูู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽุงู„ุธู‘ู„ุงู…ู ูŠูู†ู’ุฌูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

11. Neither can my she-camel endure a rider,
Nor can I, on a race day, push her to exhaustion.

ูกูก. ู„ุง ู†ูŽุงู‚ูŽุชูŠ ุชูŽู‚ู’ุจูŽู„ู ุงู„ุฑู‘ุฏููŠููŽ ูˆูŽู„ุง
ุจุงู„ุณู‘ูˆู’ุทู ูŠูŽูˆู’ู…ูŽ ุงู„ุฑู‘ู‡ูŽุงู†ู ุฃูุฌู’ู‡ูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

12. Her saddle-strap, her knee-pads and her bridle
Are her reins, and the Pleiades her guide.

ูกูข. ุดูุฑูŽุงูƒูู‡ูŽุง ูƒููˆุฑูู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽู…ูุดู’ููŽุฑูู‡ูŽุง
ุฒูู…ูŽุงู…ูู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽุงู„ุดูู‘ุณููˆุนู ู…ูู‚ู’ูˆูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

13. The fiercest desert wind she outruns,
Beneath me, made gentle by her pacing.

ูกูฃ. ุฃุดูŽุฏูู‘ ุนูŽุตู’ูู ุงู„ุฑู‘ูŠูŽุงุญู ูŠูŽุณู’ุจูู‚ูู‡ู
ุชูŽุญู’ุชูŠูŽ ู…ูู†ู’ ุฎูŽุทู’ูˆูู‡ูŽุง ุชูŽุฃูˆู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

14. Her back continuous with her belly
Like a tanned waterskin joined to another.

ูกูค. ููŠ ู…ูุซู’ู„ู ุธูŽู‡ู’ุฑู ุงู„ู…ูุฌูŽู†ู‘ ู…ูุชู‘ุตูู„ู
ุจู…ูุซู’ู„ู ุจูŽุทู’ู†ู ุงู„ู…ูุฌูŽู†ู‘ ู‚ูŽุฑู’ุฏูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

15. Hastening to Ibn Ubayd Allah are our high-bred mounts,
Their neighing and trotting.

ูกูฅ. ู…ูุฑู’ุชูŽู…ููŠุงุชูŒ ุจูู†ูŽุง ุฅู„ู‰ ุงุจู†ู ุนูุจูŽูŠู’ู€
ู€ุฏู ุงู„ู„ู‡ ุบููŠุทูŽุงู†ูู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽููŽุฏู’ููŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

16. To a knight who lunges with the spears, and whose
Watering-places in hearts have quenched their thirst.

ูกูฆ. ุฅู„ู‰ ููŽุชู‹ู‰ ูŠูุตู’ุฏูุฑู ุงู„ุฑู‘ู…ูŽุงุญูŽ ูˆูŽู‚ูŽุฏู’
ุฃู†ู’ู‡ูŽู„ูŽู‡ูŽุง ููŠ ุงู„ู‚ูู„ููˆุจู ู…ููˆุฑูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

17. He has outstanding favors to me
I cannot count, though I try to number them.

ูกูง. ู„ูŽู‡ู ุฃูŠูŽุงุฏู ุฅู„ูŠู‘ ุณูŽุงุจูู‚ูŽุฉูŒ
ุฃุนูุฏู‘ ู…ูู†ู’ู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽู„ุง ุฃูุนูŽุฏู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

18. He gives without delay to mar it,
Without reminders to embitter it.

ูกูจ. ูŠูุนู’ุทูŠ ููŽู„ุง ู…ูŽุทู’ู„ูŽุฉูŒ ูŠููƒูŽุฏู‘ุฑูู‡ูŽุง
ุจูู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽู„ุง ู…ูŽู†ู‘ุฉูŒ ูŠูู†ูŽูƒู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

19. The best of Quraysh in lineage and most generous,
Fullest of bounty and most open-handed.

ูกูฉ. ุฎูŽูŠู’ุฑู ู‚ูุฑูŽูŠู’ุดู ุฃุจุงู‹ ูˆูŽุฃู…ู’ุฌูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง
ุฃูƒุซูŽุฑูู‡ูŽุง ู†ูŽุงุฆูู„ุงู‹ ูˆูŽุฃุฌู’ูˆูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

20. I thrust with the spear, I strike with the swordโ€•
Its brown flash blackened.

ูขู . ุฃุทู’ุนูŽู†ูู‡ูŽุง ุจุงู„ู‚ูŽู†ูŽุงุฉู ุฃุถู’ุฑูŽุจูู‡ูŽุง
ุจุงู„ุณู‘ูŠู’ูู ุฌูŽุญู’ุฌุงุญูู‡ูŽุง ู…ูุณูŽูˆูŽู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

21. Her horseman is the bravest horseman, her camel-driver
The farthest-traveling, and her master and chief.

ูขูก. ุฃูู’ุฑูŽุณูู‡ูŽุง ููŽุงุฑูุณุงู‹ ูˆูŽุฃุทู’ูˆูŽู„ูู‡ูŽุง
ุจูŽุงุนุงู‹ ูˆูŽู…ูุบู’ูˆูŽุงุฑูู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽุณูŽูŠู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

22. The crown of Lu'ayy ibn Ghalib, it is he
Who gave her branches height and sharpened her point.

ูขูข. ุชูŽุงุฌู ู„ูุคูŠู‘ ุจู†ู ุบูŽุงู„ูุจู ูˆูŽุจูู‡ู
ุณูŽู…ูŽุง ู„ูŽู‡ูŽุง ููŽุฑู’ุนูู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽู…ูŽุญู’ุชูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

23. Sun of her daytime, crescent of her night,
Pearl of her anklets, chrysolite.

ูขูฃ. ุดูŽู…ู’ุณู ุถูุญูŽุงู‡ูŽุง ู‡ูู„ุงู„ู ู„ูŽูŠู„ูŽุชูู‡ูŽุง
ุฏูุฑูู‘ ุชูŽู‚ูŽุงุตููŠุฑูู‡ูŽุง ุฒูŽุจูŽุฑู’ุฌูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

24. Would that I had been struck a blow made possible
As his Muhammad was made possible.

ูขูค. ูŠูŽุง ู„ูŽูŠู’ุชูŽ ุจูŠ ุถูŽุฑู’ุจูŽุฉู‹ ุฃูุชูŠุญูŽ ู„ู‡ูŽุง
ูƒู…ูŽุง ุฃูุชููŠุญูŽุชู’ ู„ูŽู‡ู ู…ูุญูŽู…ู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

25. He left his mark on it and on iron although
His dashing one had left no blemish on his face.

ูขูฅ. ุฃุซู‘ุฑูŽ ูููŠู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽููŠ ุงู„ุญูŽุฏููŠุฏู ูˆู…ูŽุง
ุฃุซู‘ุฑูŽ ููŠ ูˆูŽุฌู’ู‡ูู‡ู ู…ูู‡ูŽู†ู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

26. It congratulated itself when it saw its adornment
With the like of him, though wounds may envy it.

ูขูฆ. ููŽุงุบู’ุชูŽุจูŽุทูŽุชู’ ุฅุฐู’ ุฑูŽุฃุชู’ ุชูŽุฒูŽูŠู‘ู†ูŽู‡ูŽุง
ุจูู…ูุซู’ู„ูู‡ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุฌูุฑูŽุงุญู ุชูŽุญู’ุณูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

27. People realized that he who planted it
Through his scheming would one day reap it.

ูขูง. ูˆูŽุฃูŠู’ู‚ูŽู†ูŽ ุงู„ู†ู‘ุงุณู ุฃู†ู‘ ุฒูŽุงุฑูุนูŽู‡ูŽุง
ุจุงู„ู…ูŽูƒู’ุฑู ููŠ ู‚ูŽู„ู’ุจูู‡ู ุณูŽูŠูŽุญู’ุตูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

28. His enviers woke up with their souls
Fearfully humbling him and exalting him.

ูขูจ. ุฃุตู’ุจูŽุญูŽ ุญูุณู‘ุงุฏูู‡ู ูˆูŽุฃู†ู’ููุณูู‡ูู…ู’
ูŠูุญู’ุฏูุฑูู‡ูŽุง ุฎูŽูˆู’ููู‡ู ูˆูŽูŠูุตู’ุนูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

29. The sword weeps for the polished blade when
It warns it will strip it bare.

ูขูฉ. ุชูŽุจู’ูƒูŠ ุนู„ูŽู‰ ุงู„ุฃู†ู’ุตูู„ู ุงู„ุบูู…ููˆุฏู ุฅุฐูŽุง
ุฃู†ู’ุฐูŽุฑูŽู‡ูŽุง ุฃู†ู‘ู‡ู ูŠูุฌูŽุฑูู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

30. Knowing it will become blood
And plunge it into the necks.

ูฃู . ู„ูุนูู„ู’ู…ูู‡ูŽุง ุฃู†ู‘ู‡ูŽุง ุชูŽุตููŠุฑู ุฏูŽู…ุงู‹
ูˆูŽุฃู†ู‘ู‡ู ููŠ ุงู„ุฑู‘ู‚ูŽุงุจู ูŠูุบู’ู…ูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

31. He unleashed it, so the enemy in panic
Curses it while the friend praises it.

ูฃูก. ุฃุทู’ู„ูŽู‚ูŽู‡ูŽุง ููŽุงู„ุนูŽุฏููˆู‘ ู…ูู†ู’ ุฌูŽุฒูŽุนู
ูŠูŽุฐูู…ู‘ู‡ูŽุง ูˆูŽุงู„ุตู‘ุฏููŠู‚ู ูŠูŽุญู’ู…ูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

32. Fire sparks from its striking,
And the pouring of the blood quenches it

ูฃูข. ุชูŽู†ู’ู‚ูŽุฏูุญู ุงู„ู†ู‘ุงุฑู ู…ูู†ู’ ู…ูŽุถุงุฑูุจูู‡ูŽุง
ูˆูŽุตูŽุจูู‘ ู…ูŽุงุกู ุงู„ุฑู‘ู‚ุงุจู ูŠูุฎู’ู…ูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

33. When passions lose their way one day
Their tips seeking it out.

ูฃูฃ. ุฅุฐูŽุง ุฃุถูŽู„ู‘ ุงู„ู‡ูู…ูŽุงู…ู ู…ูู‡ู’ุฌูŽุชูŽู‡ู
ูŠูŽูˆู’ู…ุงู‹ ููŽุฃุทู’ุฑูŽุงููู‡ูู†ู‘ ุชูŽู†ู’ุดูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

34. All creation has agreed for me
That you, O son of the Prophet, are its unique one,

ูฃูค. ู‚ูŽุฏู’ ุฃุฌู’ู…ูŽุนูŽุชู’ ู‡ูŽุฐูู‡ู ุงู„ุฎูŽู„ููŠู‚ูŽุฉู ู„ูŠ
ุฃู†ู‘ูƒูŽ ูŠุง ุงุจู†ูŽ ุงู„ู†ู‘ุจูŠู‘ ุฃูˆู’ุญูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

35. And that yesterday you were a hot-blooded
Elderly Mฤdฤซ, while you are its most virile one,

ูฃูฅ. ูˆุฃู†ู‘ูƒูŽ ุจุงู„ุฃู…ู’ุณู ูƒูู†ู’ุชูŽ ู…ูุญู’ุชูŽู„ูู…ุงู‹
ุดูŽูŠู’ุฎูŽ ู…ูŽุนูŽุฏูู‘ ูˆูŽุฃู†ู’ุชูŽ ุฃู…ู’ุฑูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

36. So many glorious blessings
You have cultivated, your birth was their origin,

ูฃูฆ. ูˆูŽูƒูŽู…ู’ ูˆูŽูƒูŽู…ู’ ู†ูุนู’ู…ูŽุฉู ู…ูุฌูŽู„ูู‘ู„ูŽุฉู
ุฑูŽุจู‘ูŠู’ุชูŽู‡ูŽุง ูƒุงู†ูŽ ู…ูู†ู’ูƒูŽ ู…ูŽูˆู’ู„ูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

37. So many needs you have granted
Closer to me than their appointed time,

ูฃูง. ูˆูŽูƒูŽู…ู’ ูˆูŽูƒูŽู…ู’ ุญูŽุงุฌูŽุฉู ุณูŽู…ูŽุญู’ุชูŽ ุจู‡ูŽุง
ุฃู‚ู’ุฑูŽุจู ู…ู†ู‘ูŠ ุฅู„ูŠู‘ ู…ูŽูˆู’ุนูุฏูู‡ูŽุง

38. And gifts of kindness walking step after step
To my house, repeating them.

ูฃูจ. ูˆูŽู…ูŽูƒู’ุฑูู…ูŽุงุชู ู…ูŽุดูŽุชู’ ุนู„ูŽู‰ ู‚ูŽุฏูŽู…ู ุงู„ู’ู€
ู€ุจูุฑู‘ ุฅู„ู‰ ู…ูŽู†ู’ุฒูู„ูŠ ุชูุฑูŽุฏู‘ุฏูู‡ูŽุง

39. They make my skin cling to my bones, so I cannot
Till death, peel them away.

ูฃูฉ. ุฃู‚ูŽุฑู‘ ุฌูู„ู’ุฏูŠ ุจู‡ูŽุง ุนูŽู„ูŠู‘ ููŽู„ุง
ุฃู‚ู’ุฏูุฑู ุญูŽุชู‘ู‰ ุงู„ู…ูŽู…ูŽุงุชู ุฃุฌู’ุญูŽุฏูู‡ูŽุง

40. Then return with themโ€•I will never lack themโ€•
The best prayers of the generous one I shall repeat.
