1. Your enemy is blamed by every tongue,
Even if he were the two moons.

2. And God has a secret in your ascent,
The enemy's talk is a kind of madness.

3. Do enemies still seek after what they have seen
Of evidence standing or clarity of proof?

4. They have seen everyone who plots against you stricken
By the betrayal of a life or the betrayal of time.

Despite his youth, the sword left his grip,

6. And they were companions atop the hilltops.

7. It was as if the people's necks said to his sword,
“Your friend is Qaysi and you are Yemani.”

So if he was a human who went on his way,

9. Then death is the goal of all the living.

10. He was but fire stirring up dust
In the place of smoke.

He attained a life desired by his foe

12. And a death that makes all cowards yearn for death.
He dispelled the impact of spear-points with his spear,

13. And did not fear the impact of star and fate.

14. He did not know that death hovers over his heights,
Like a good flier spreading its wings.

15. And he who killed peers until he himself was killed
By the weakest peer in the lowliest place.

Death came to him by a hidden path,

17. Unseen by any ear or eye around him.
Had it taken the routes of arms he would have repelled it

18. With the length of his right hand and breadth of his soul.
Fortune sought him out among his comrades

19. With trust in his fate and protection.

20. Of what use is the great army with all its milling about
For other than Mansur or Mu’an?

21. He gave before nightfall with his own soul
What he had reaped, and did not restrain his hand.

Do you keep what the hand of a rational man has entrusted?

23. Yet you hold back the bridle in ingratitude!
And he mounts the nobility you provided him,

24. While mounting disobedience in the saddle of a steed!

25. Goodness has folded its hand as if
It had no fingers, cut off at the roots!

26.
And in whom today is loyalty to a companion?

27. Youth yet the most loyal you see are brothers.
God has decreed, O Kafoor, that you are the first,
