Egypt misses you, and your era misses you

4. I forget, and don’t forget, the buried one, as
Tears poured down from eyes upon him

5. I remembered you, while the breaths from you are last
Your soul accompanied by purity

6. Calling to the teacher, leaving a mark on him
The free called him in their day of freedom

7. Distracted by the greens from death, patient
Thinking of its prisoner, thus is patience

8. Calling loudly, Oh Tunisia, which today
Has from hatred, in my breaths, a scent

9. I smell from Paradise the fragrance of delight
And sing it from our greens, that blossom

10. Calling until I return the soul to its Lord
And the successor in life has paid allegiance to it

11. The rhymes console me, crying
And all the people consoled on its rainy day

12. I remembered you when you entrusted your people with eulogy
And your crown deserved to be adorned with pearls

13. I did not betray my promise in the will, but only
Delayed the elegy since poetry betrayed me

14. I composed strands of tears like pearls
And the poetry's pearls made the sea roll

15. I say, having witnessed your coffin walking
If I lost my treasure, it is to one who has treasure

16. And my sorrow was always renewed for you
And time hurts me for my friend

17. Whenever I glanced, you were before my eyes
An example of brilliance, sights of you are many

18. I do not hide you from my eyes, but rather
Your existence in things is the soul and secret

19. You were to the days, the full moon of its brilliance
Without the full moon's brilliance, the month is not known

20. I found you in my art, I found you in discourse
I found you in ideals, this is life

21. You came out through rhymes, debating
So half is from me, and half from you

22. Prosody reminds me of Rāghib
Asking about him to elevate his worth

23. The meadow of poetry reminds me of its flower
With which I served Islam, truly for you is the reward

24. Those epistles remind me, complaining
Of time and days, such is their betrayal

25. My book of poetry reminds me, and what is in it
Is only magic and precious pearls from your words

26. My companion reminds me of our sessions
He is nothing but the sun, and dawn is his

27. All the virtues remind me of the one
Who was adorned by them like a necklace he honors

28. He was like a garden, sighing over its branches
Its green leaves fell upon it

29. With you, the Abbasid house was proud
Thus is pride, followed by pride

30. Al-Nāṣir the king, the prince, cried for the pearl
That was lost, and its place became empty

31. You enlightened what you enlightened of the scripts of creation
Were it not for the dress of sorrow, the pen would not have drawn them

32. You let the greens flow constantly from your eyes
I wonder at their greenness while their tears are red

33. Tunisia's greens cried over Ṣāliḥ as
Egypt cried over Kāmil before it, its sister

34. It has the right - the time of missing it has come
For the like of you, where is its equal? Excuses to cry are justified

35. We covered the face of the country with its veil
As you wish, O Ṣāliḥ, and the matter became clear

36. Of the crescent, red, surrounded by victory
We remove the blindness from those eyes

37. So that the stonehearted can see, and ignorance is lifted
You see us, and stones of obstruction are trampled

38. Under our feet, a sea with ebb and flow
Its waves throw them as corpses

39. And the sparks in its shells flare
If the one sadly missed saw

40. The opposition of the free, cheer would intoxicate him
When they imprison individuals, and you save them

41. The greens congratulate, taking the cheer
Thus are the traits of those standing up for revival

42. And whoever seeks the beautiful one, the dowry does not tempt him
The sweet is not good in the cup of disgrace

43. But in the cup of honor, the bitter is sweetened
Without your eulogy, as you entrusted

44. Its delay in fulfillment, a vow fulfilled
None can eulogize your equal

45. So neither land nor sea can lead them to you
This is my letter, pages I have scattered

46. Upon your shining grave, with poetry and prose
Recite its lines, O King of Mercy, over it

47. And say: My Lord, for you is all thanks
