And flattery is prone to temptation

And the lovely ones are tempted by praise

Flattery led her to temptation

4. I did not say little of her, but rather
The names in her love grew many

5. If she saw me, she would turn away as if
She had not heard the news at all

6. What day spent in her love goes by
Without some thing between us

7. A glance, then a smile, then a greeting
She hides, then nods, then turns away

8. She walks on, then stops, comes nearer
We talk, make a date, then meet

9. The day we were, do not ask how we were
Both of us lost in passion's haze

10. The day we were, as we indulged
In love's desires as we wished

11. While chastity's guardian watched over us
I loved the like of him as a counselor

12. Her innocent love stayed in my heart until
I grew weary of passion's quirks

13. She pulled me into disobedience and said
"Do you disobey, oh shame and defiance?"

14. Your poetry's magic, taste decrees
You poets are some people

15. So fear God in deceiving the chaste
Not in them is Mary the chaste

16. Do not trap their hearts with verse
For the chaste, their hearts are air
