1. The sketch of the land he wished to buy,
But found none who lent an ear.

2. So into hands he cast it, hoping they’d accept it,
Even as a gift handed to outstretched palms.

3. Yet the people spurned it, all alike,
Preferring loss to fate's unknown.

4. The land's sketch thus became a burden,
On which international law had set its sail.

5. Glory to Him who patiently bore the land's mass,
And gave power over those who entered it to its beasts.

6. So who chose ruins as a dwelling place,
With lions at the doors craving to devour?

7. If civilization's light gives joy to the eye,
It takes away the ability to see its rays.

8. My countrymen, be the proudest among them,
No believer bears dishonor in his bowl.
